Regarding the recent tragedy in London, Arianna states in her post that, "If one needed more proof of the ascendancy of online news, this morning put the Internet vs. print battle into stark relief -- and foretold the Net’s inevitable victory."
And she holds up TODAY'S New York Times as proof, which was printed, um, before the disaster took place.
I was thinking - wow - now we can finally view today's tragedy correctly.
This was not about terrorism or plain old evil. It was about the Internet kicking the potatoes out of print!
I think she's right.
But then, i turned on the TV, and saw real, moving images of the tragedy - along with voices coming straight from the television speaker! these voices were telling me what was going on! IT was done with actual reporters! they were holding microphones!
Surely, If anything, the tragedy was a victory for television - and its ascendancy over print and online! but then I turned on the radio, and i got up-to-date info, from people on the spot! Sure there were no pictures...but there were real people with REAL NAMES! Surely, this tragedy was a victory for radio as well! Am I right?
But then Scott piped in from the bathroom, and said, "Greg, what about ham radio! Greg...what about HAM RADIO???"
It's true - the ham radio delivers news fast too!- right from the mouths of real people who happen to own ham radios!
Truly, this is more proof of the ascendancy of ham radio!
I would like to congratulate the HuffPost, and its online news victory over print. But i would also like to point out that i got a lot of news from my mom, over the phone, while she was watching TV.
And she wasnt bragging about it. In fact she might say it IS really inappropriate (vulgar, even) to use a tragedy as an excuse to trumpet something as trivial and self-serving as the superiority of the internet.
But what does she know? She watches Fox News! (at high volume, i might add)

PS: this is satire in the spirit of Jonathan Swift! And Jann Wenner!
