On September 10, the Illinois House of Representatives voted with strong bipartisan majorities to restore many of the Governor's most devastating cuts to the human services, aging, natural resource and law enforcement budgets. Also, the House overrode the Governor's veto of the ethics legislation banning "pay-to-play" contributions by State contractors....

Governor Blagojevich recently undertook a splashy "rewrite to do-right" campaign to "improve" legislation passed by the General Assembly. If he rewrites anything, it should be his decimation of state funding for substance abuse treatment, and giving up $55 million in federal treatment dollars.
Maybe the Governor doesn't think that...

The 23rd and 24th Special Sessions of the General Assembly started off much the same as most of the other special sessions called by the Governor. The Governor called the 23rd Special Session on Tuesday, but provided no legislation to be considered. The House adjourned in very short order.
