GET UPDATES FROM Greg Jacobs

I am a 20-year-old Kansas transplant going to NYU and majoring in Metropolitan Studies. My passions include real estate, sociology, and pop culture. Swimming has been a big part of my life as well as friends, family, and pushing myself to be better. I love to travel and am always planning my next trip. My humor is similar to that found in Modern Family, Seinfeld or The Nanny. On a given day you could find me people watching in Lower Manhattan, working out, or procrastinating online with junk food by my side. I love looking into what makes people tick, which probably stems from my psychologist father and plan on continuing my career in real estate after graduation in the Spring of 2013.

American Star!!! A Great Musical With an Honest Plot

(0) Comments | Posted April 19, 2013 | 5:22 PM

This past weekend, Friday night to be exact, I attended my first student musical south of 42nd Street. While I believe in the statistics on how fierce the talent pool is in New York, I remained skeptical of the show's East Village location, smaller production value, and young cast. My...

How Viral Is Social Media?

(1) Comments | Posted March 7, 2013 | 12:17 PM

I received a text message yesterday from a close friend/ex-boyfriend. He asked me if my birthday was actually tomorrow, while knowing that it was in May. I really had no clue what he was talking about and didn't look into all that much. This morning, after waking up at 5:45,...

The Worst Days to Visit New York City

(5) Comments | Posted January 29, 2013 | 9:46 AM

A little more than four years ago, Eater NY posted an article about the "5 Worst Nights in New York." It was a rather accurate account of nights that New Yorkers -- Manhattanites in particular -- have come to despise. A hatred deeper than that of dropped calls,...

A Note to My Parents

(0) Comments | Posted December 21, 2012 | 3:10 PM

When you're younger, your parents are the sources of all things good, and unfortunately many things bad. They tell you to you can't go out, ground you when they find your hidden stash of alcohol-filled water bottles hidden under your bed, and make sure you are on their idea of...

Less About the We, More About the Us

(0) Comments | Posted December 16, 2012 | 12:15 PM

My newsfeed of late is probably no different than yours has been. It is flooded with posts, reposts and shares of the tragedy that occurred just a few days ago. While this article probably does nothing more but facilitate the disease of emotion sharing via social media, I thought it...

Entering the Black Hole of Productivity

(0) Comments | Posted December 3, 2012 | 2:07 PM

Ah, it is that time of year again, the fateful period between Thanksgiving break and winter holiday. A time where the air is cold, the days are short, and the study breaks are long. The few weeks of school most of us have between now and the nearly month long...

Going Home for Thanksgiving

(7) Comments | Posted November 21, 2012 | 8:14 AM

It is almost that time of year for hundreds of thousands of college students to venture home for the first, more expedited holiday. The few days spent at home are often the first time we get to actually see our former high school classmates in person since the summer or...

People You See at a Coffee Shop

The tourists -- They don't speak English and look completely lost. The people in line behind them wait for the foreigners to make up their fucking mind so that everyone can get on with their lives. Chances are the couple is wearing some brightly colored puffy jackets. They are always...

Thoughts on National Coming Out Day

(1) Comments | Posted October 11, 2012 | 12:19 PM

Make sure to tweet that it's 10/11/12, also make sure to tweet something about how you came out of the closet!

The whole idea that there should be a day designated to outing yourself is ridiculous and counterproductive. A few nights ago I watched an "It Gets Better" special on...

New York Is Meant to Break You

(1) Comments | Posted October 9, 2012 | 3:16 PM

I made it all of six paragraph's into the foreword of Sharon Zukin's Loft Living before needing to take a break. It's chilly, about 50 degrees, overcast and wet. A light drizzle picked up into some showers earlier in the day. They tapered off, but the city is still wrapped...

The Art of Debate

There is really nothing more exciting than watching politics in action, at least there is nothing more exciting when the media builds it up to be the be all end all of our political existence. Regardless of how important the media makes us think these debates are, they play a...

Just about everyone will tell you it takes X amount of time to truly become a New Yorker. Some will say that you become a New Yorker the minute you get off the plane, while others will say that you aren't really a New Yorker until you have lived here...

'Lets Have a Kiki'

I am sitting here at 9:06 p.m. on a Thursday night listening to "The Power of Love," sober, alone, and quite content. Many (but not all) gay men share common traits with housewives in their mid 40s or 50s. We like interior design, fashion, gossip, and pretending to go to...

There are few places in the world where you can be taking 18 credits of school, working 30 hours a week, managing a blossoming social life and still feel like you aren't keeping up with the Joneses. Life in this alien world is filled with agonizingly long walks between avenues,...
