Condi Rice as VP? Richard Clarke and Dana Priest Call Her 'Worst' Ever

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

There was an interesting, if brief, moment of zen on last night's Bill Maher HBO show, when Maher raised the question of Condi Rice supposedly testing the waters to be picked as John McCain's running mate.

Jason Alexander chortled but then Dana Priest of The Washington Post -- who won a second Pulitzer this week and is usually very careful in her public comments -- joined with Richard Clarke in thoroughly mocking the very idea of McCain getting a Condi fix.

"Maybe political reporters don't have anything better to write about," Priest observed. "She probably will go down in the history books as one of the worst secretaries of state ever." And that is really saying something, given the long, checkered history of the position.

But Clarke seconded the idea, and Priest continued, "and the worst national security adviser, where she was completely ineffective."

Clarke again endorsed that assessment, and added, puckishly, "So the answer is -- please Condi, run."

Maher then pointed out that the only reason this would even be considered is that the GOP might want her, with Obama on the other side, to "black up" the ticket. But, he added, with some claiming that Obama is "not black enough," what would they make of Condi?

Greg Mitchell's new book is So Wrong for So Long: How the Press, the Pundits -- and the President -- Failed on Iraq. It has been hailed by our own Arianna, Bill Moyers, Glenn Greenwald and others, and features a preface by Bruce Springsteen.

If ever there were an unqualified twit in way over her head, it has been Condoleezza Rice as National Security Adviser and Secretary of State.

She got where she is by asking pointed questions at conferences, of exposing bullshit in accepted truths, but her own policies are more ivory tower than what she used to question, and far more brutal and unquestionably ineffective and demoralizing to the nation.

She's an American tragedy.

"...If ever there were an unqualified twit in way over her head..." Well, you did specify "her", in genderless terms: George 1/2. Or, all the voters who voted for him. And then there's all the voters who will vote for McInsane in Nov.

Maybe she's planning to top Dick Cheney as the worst vice-president ever.

Nahhh, Cheney is worst VP ever because he is running the government. Rice would be more like a 19th century VP, remember them? No? That's the point.

Run, Condi, run.

Give us a chance to talk about that ``Bin Laden / Attack'' memo from right before 9/11.

Let the Democratic nominee for veep debate you without you having the right to talk over him or her and obfuscate and run your jive.

And give the non-party foes of your right-wing cabal a chance to run their own ads about your character, your record and your loyalty to the worst president in the history of our republic.

Condi, you are a craven careerist, an opportunist without conscience.

If the Hare Krishnas came to power, you would shave your head, don a robe, grab a tambourine and head to the center of town to chant gibberish.

Even the zealots of your Greed-Guns-God coalition are wise to you, Condi. Oh, do you think they would warm to a single black female to show how inclusive and ``big-tent'' the Republicans can be? Yeah, sure. You go for it, gal. Just count the election returns down home in Crackerland.

How well your candidacy would serve to remind the nation of the damage done in eight years of Bush. A McCain-Rice ticket might lead to a 50-state Democratic sweep.

Oh, please Condi, run.

Run, Condi, run.

I believe the title was, "Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the United States."

Ah yes, the absurd talking point of the deranged "blame Bush" crowd. What do you suppose should have been done following the title of that memo? How exactly was Bin Laden going to attack inside the U.S. You've read the memo, so please enlighten us.

No information was gleaned from that report that wasn't already the subject of The History Chanel documentary.

You are blinded by hate, and consumed with blaming the new administration with a terrorist act that was planned for 3 years under the watchful eyes of Bill Clinton and Dick Clarke.

Yeah even tho Clarke told bush from early 2001 that Al Queada was a serious threat but bush and cheney were too busy trying to build star wars which looked like a good way to get money to their corporate butt buddies at least until 911 and Iraq came along.

Great. The same right wing that despises McCain, and once implied that he was the father of an illegitimate afro-American daughter, can now claim that she got the job because she was the mother. Just gotta love you guys.

Ah yes, the absurd talking point of the deranged rightwingers.
Blame everything on Clinton.
Even things that happen on King George W's watch.
I'll tell you what they should have done.
They should have worked on that instead of scheming to invade Iraq, that's what.
They also could have instituted all their fake airport security.
If it stops terrists now, why could it not have stopped them on 9/11?
You're a liar and an apologist.

You're right about that being an absurd talking point.
You're wrong about whose talking point it is, since of course, it's a direct quote.
It was Condi's talking point.

Yes, you are right in one small way:
Yes. We hate Bush. We sure do. But we are not blind. We see all too clearly.

Even if we LIKED Bush, even if he was not a smug rich punk who stole the election of 2000, we would all have to agree that he is dangerously inept and that he has wasted thousands of lives and billions of dollars.

And if the leader of a place like Haiti or Panama or some place like that conducted himself the way Bush has in foreign affairs, we would invade and occupy his country while desposing, jailing, trying, convicting and executing him.

And her first public statement after 9/11 was "We had no idea they would use airplanes as weapons".

The "no idea" thing is very funny, since about 6 months before the attack, millions of American network television viewers watched an episode of "The Smoking Gun" (an X-Files spin-off series) in which the central plot was a conspiracy by an ultra-right-wing group of shadowy intelligence agency professionals to conduct a "false flag" terrorist attack on the US by... ready for this? FLYING AN AIRLINER INTO THE WORLD TRADE CENTER!

So much for the "who could've imagined" crowd.

The GOP knows they will lose the 2008 election, therefore their best strategy is to help Clinton win the nomination to keep the Status Quo in power under Hillary, who is the neo conservative Republican in Democratic drag so the Republicans put up Candi Rice, a Black VP to drag away votes from Obama in the nomination process. And Rice would go so far in her political perfidy as to help keep a Black man out of the White House. Talk about racial infamy, Rice heads the race.

Kind of warms the cockles of your heart, to hear those words spoken....... twice, doesn't it? I especially liked it when Richard Clarke said "please" to the idea of her running for VP. If it weren't for the fact that our country in in the shits, because of these criminals, this'd all be funny.

I can't stand Condi, however I have studied enough history to know that she isn't EVEN CLOSE to the worst Sec. State in our nations history.

If you had bothered to read a few books or attend a few history classes you would also realize how silly that statement is.

You're all closed minded partisans. Condi is smart, engaged and pretty. She would make a great VP. Her sexual orientation is of no importance to this conservative. Why is it important to so many of you?

Could not care less, ... and neither could her "husband" (her Ferudian slip) Bush. Who's she engaged to?, ... and if pretty includes a dire need for a frenectomy and eyes which, in their most fervent concentration, look like a cheer leader from the Village of the Damned, ... then go for it.

I, and most here, seem concerned that she has proven herself incompetent in every possible way since she came to Washington with Bush. I loved my grandfather's name for such people, ... Nincompoops!

So, ... as Clarke said, ... "Run Condi, Run!" I could not be happier than to see McCain have to run with a woman, ... particularly since he seems to have expressed an anatomical expletive toward even his his wife, ... that he could correct by running with Condi. We know how much the Republican Party likes to correct past indiscretions by their candidates.

What you fail to mention, that is important, is ability. You forget the fact that she proved herself to have been totally incapable of performing her job, as both, Nat'l Security Adviser and Secretary of State. But since when has that level of incompetence ever been a reason for not appointing someone to as position of importance, in this administration.
So go ahead and vote for McCain, since I'm sure you will, and we'll discuss this further in the gulag.

Have you had your I.Q. tested lately? If you truly believe that "Condi is smart, engaged and pretty. She would make a great VP," then I suspect your overall intelligence has suffered from the mental effort [as a conservative] of attempting to support the insupportable.

She is maybe pretty. She has been a totally ineffective NSA and SOS. She tells Bushie what he wants to hear. Her sexuality will be a big deal. She obviously doesn't want us to know the truth, so she will not run because it will all come out in the open. I can see John Hagee, James Dobson and Pat Robertson endorsing a black alleged lesbian as VP. It will never happen.

Condi as Veep? Oh,man!
She was National Security Advisor......9/11.
She's Secretary Of State.....Palestinians vote "freely and fairly"...for Hamas (nothing wrong with that).
She goes before the 9/11 Commission and LIES,saying that she never imagined that terrorists would use planes as weapons-but when Bush went to the G8 in summer '01,they thought bin Laden would try to do exactly that .There goeth her "integrity".
How 'bout Condi as Head Of Special War Criminal Cell Block 666? It'll be like she never left the White House, bacause all her buddies will be there-Cheney,Rummy,Wolfie,and her husb-uh,President ,too. She can keeps things running smoothly from her OWN cell.

The democrats in Congress had better start chipping away at Gappy Toofus. Get Waxman to hold a few hearings, start bringing her name up in connection with the torture stuff; get the pre 9/11 memo back out there in circulation.....No wait, never mind. All of this would require them to have balls and brains. Just stick to the original gameplan: do absolutely nothing and hope for the best.

Please read Richard Clarke's book, "Against All Enemies." Rice was so involved in Bush's rush to invade Iraq that she didn't listen to Clarke. She also was informed by some of our top scientists that the infamous aluminum tubes were designed for rockets and definitely not for nuclear reactors. She is unequivocally responsible for 9/11—she could have and should have stopped it and had plenty of time to do so.

There's a certain obscene symmetry in having the Tortured POW Senator as POTUS on one end, and the vice-chair of the "most excellent torture-as-policy" clandestine White House meetings on the other end as the VPOTUS candidate.

But then again, almost every Republican ticket has been pretty obscene anyway.
