UPDATED: Pittsburgh Killer Once Posted at 'Militia' Forum -- Later Hit Obama, 'Liberal Media'
Like many other news organizations, the Associated Press today is reprinting excerpts from the online diary kept by George Sodini, who killed three women and then himself at a Pittsburgh area fitness center last night. The diary focuses on his severe problems with women (surely his biggest motivator in the slayings) and other worries related to family and layoffs. But it also includes comments about the "liberal media," the "Obama economy" -- and it opens with remarks about last fall's election, the election of "The Black Man" and jokes about black men bedding white women.
All of this was left out of the AP excerpts and nearly everywhere else, including a new New York Times account.
Interestingly, at this afternoon's press conference, the local police chief was asked about any racial aspect to the shooting. He denied it but some may have wondered why the question even arose (the shooter and all victims were white).
In addition, I have located, with some digging, a March 13, 1994 Web posting by Sodini at a Whitewater news group which reads in full:
I got a bumper sticker that reads: "Stop Socialism Impeach Clinton" from an ad in National Review magazine. There are many neat buttons and stickers and things advertised in those conservative magazines. George
Two weeks later after posting at an "alt.clinton.politics" forum he signed off with another pro-impeachment message: "Gore in '94."
And on Sept. 9, 1995, he posted on a "activism.militia" newsgroup the following:
I am convinced that more drastic action is required to bring the country back to the Constitutional order that it was 200 years ago. I don't think any group of political leaders will achieve this for us.
Sodini's Web page, with the diary, has now been removed from the Web. Ironically, at the bottom of his page he had urged that it never be removed and, in fact, spread widely. His final statement there was "Death Lives!"
Here was the first entry, which explains his early desire to "exit" and take a few people with him, but deciding to stick around until past last November's election -- and his sarcastic remarks about Obama. Later in the diary he complains about the 'Obama economy.'
Planned to do this in the summer but figure to stick around to see the election outcome. This particular one got so much attention and I was just curious. UPDATE: Police chief also noted today that killer used extra long clips for bullets, once illegal under assault weapons ban, overturned in 2004. He had four handguns on him when he died (he was dressed all in black, including a black headband). Police searched his home and found four rifles and shotguns.

PPM drove slavery, it drove world wars, and it is driving the planet insane. You only have (on average) seventy or so years. I have tasted all three of these drugs in notable measure and I can tell you each is an empty promise, a weak substitute when distorted beyond actual value and worth. The demented man's obsession with the middle of the three headed monster sealed his fate. If something external to you becomes more important than life itself -- life over. We got a lot of zombies walking around here today moaning and groaning about PPM as they lurch on down the dusty trail in search of one or all three. It is a sad, sad state of affairs. Distortion and perversion of life are at historic levels. A new moment is upon us and the future is very uncertain given the components of now. Confusion, delusion, and straight up denial are everywhere. God help us, because we seem intent on self destruction.
I do not think this man was a classic racist, I think he was an addict, hooked on the perversion (the high) of PPM. It killed him and it caused him to kill others. How tragic!
My biggest fear is that you are 100% correct and that the tide cannot be reversed.
No matter the ruminations and machinations of external forces -- to thine own self be true. I am not ruled by PPM but I live in a world that is, which is perfectly acceptable. The correction is inherent to the process.
The future will be what it will be and it will be the fault, the burden, and the challenge for whomever is found undeniably at fault, burdened, and challenged. Me, I am towards having no desires. Me, I am towards leaving nothing undone (I have a task list) yet being totally lazy as I complete all tasks (I refused to be stressed). Whatever it is you do, be happy, be content, be ye not fearful, and embrace the goodness that is pervasive in life. PPM is a distortion as I noted, it is not the best we can be by any stretch of the imagination, yet we have spent centuries settling for our lesser selves (aggregately speaking). Sometimes this distortion of self manifests beyond self to cause real and lasting tragedy. It is always interesting to me when the GOP (et al) talks of the victim mentality, for no particular group is more affected by such a mentality than that august group of hypocrites.

Read his complete blog and Greg Mitchell took bits and pieces out of context which made his sound like a racist lunatic. The guy was extremelly depressed, astondingly immature, exceedingly self centered but I don't quite get the racist part. He wondered why these young girls weren't interested in him. Besides the fact that he was too old for them he wasn't interested in them only in what they could do for him and his ego. Now he isn't the only person who thinks this way obviously but perhaps he didn't have the social skills to pull it off. Tragic that he didn't get some intensive counseling so he could have developed a healthy, loving relationship with a grown woman. Many women don't care if a guy is a bit of a social nerd if they are interested, respectful, appreciative of them.

And I'll bet this guy would be described as your regular, average guy and everyone is probably shocked at what he did. That's why these blatant and subliminal racist/sexist/homophobic messages are dangerous because they could provoke someone to act on those messages. But that's probably the outcome many of these messengers are hoping for. They thrive on this kind of chaos.
After reading his blog entries, I don't think he was a racist, in fact not even a sexist. I think he was pretty intelligent. What he lacked was social skills not only with women but also with guys since he says himself that he doesn't have any friends. None of these of course justifies what he did which was absolutely wrong. I guess what we are trying to do here is trying to find out what might drive a seemingly "normal" person to such a hideous act. I think he had deep chronical depression. But why would he commit murder before he killed himself? Maybe he was a narcist like it was said here or he wanted to take revenge or get attention at least after his death .... ? Not quite sure what to think of it.
You can lay all this racial over tones to McCain & Palin remember the hatred and racism during the election they refused to stop it now all the lunatics are coming home to roost ,this may very well get uglier as the country moves on. So much for both party's working together and the Republicans can joke now but remember what goes around comes around you may very well be a receiver of your own doing!

Why is there no intelligent law in the US to regulate and/or prohibit such cults and sects? Not everything that labels itself church is church and I don't understand why there are no proper regulations.

Yes, I agree but that should be the "liberty" to buy and carry guns with you for no apperant threat!!! Are we not living in a civilized country? Don't we have laws? Why do people need to have and carry guns in their gym bags for heaven's sake? In no other civilized country in the world people are allowed to have guns this easily. Obviously people who believe that they need to have guns either don't believe in law and order or they don't believe in our system of enforcing them or both. Very sad and disturbing. If he had chosen to get help for himself he would have been able to turn his own life around instead of destroying other people's lives along with his. Sadly he did not seem to actively look for real help.
What is missing in all the articles is that he was a Christian Rightwing cult member for 13 years. He said guilt and fear kept him there for this long.
What is very disturbing is that the leader of the cult convinced him that you can committ mass m.urder and still go to heaven. Will he be prosecuted for his teaching?
And all of these "churches" should get way more scrutinity! For they teach their members they can do anything, Jesus had already died for their sins therefore all sins are automatically forgiven!
This is of course not only completely wrong but as we see in this case it can encourage deeply disturbed -and by the cult destroyed- people to act accordingly.

This is what I call the "Hitler was a vegetarian" argument.
...But it would be different, if ALMOST ALL Nazis were vegetarians. If you could clearly perceive and document a correlation, between vegetarianism, and fascism, it would not be a silly "argument."
That's the case, with connecting mass murder, to right wing politics, and "evangelical" Christianity, or Christian-esque cults. Mass murderers have declared themselves proponents of these ideologies and "religions" so often now, it's terrifying, and it's also terrifying that nothing has been DONE about it. Largely because deniers like you would rather see people continue to die, than face the evidence.
More violence and rage from the right....something told me this guy was probably a republican. they are the ones who normally cling to guns and religion and commit the most heinous crimes.
There is going to be more of this and more cover ups to stop the public from realizing just how dangerous the right really is.
It's a shame that we protect whites in this country and immediately accuse blacks and other minorities of evil intentions...BUT that is the history of the U.S.
