Obama is "Anti-Christ Muslim" Email Still Circulating -- And Here It Is
With all the attention on this week's New Yorker cover, it should not be overlooked that one email that inspired it is still circulating, though long repudiated by the alleged author.
A friend of mine received it just this week from a close (rightwing) relative. It's cute that it cites Snopes as a source -- since Snopes mocks it.
I will reprint most of it here and then the denial from the "author" and church (in Florida).
Here it is.
"A man will come from the east...."
MAY WE ALL PRAY FOR WISDOM AND DISCERNMENT AND PRAY FOR EACH OTHER AS WE MAKE THIS DECISION OF A LIFETIME! OUR LIVES, CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN'S LIVES WILL BE CHANGED FOREVER BECAUSE OF OUR CHOICE THIS ELECTION. MAY GOD BE WITH US ALL!God help us if this man is elected!! But it is all stated in the Bible and it will happen sooner or later.
This is from Darlene Millican, wife of the pastor of Trinity Bapt. Church here in Sun City:
"I have felt for sometime now that Obama is the one person that 'Frightens Me'. I believe the Bible has warned us that 'A man will come from the East that will be charismatic in nature and have proposed solutions for all our problems and his rhetoric will attract many supporters!'
"When will our pathetic Nation quit turning their back on God and understand that this man is 'A Muslim'... First, Last and always... and we are AT WAR with the Muslim Nation, whether our bleeding-heart, secular, Liberal friends believe it or not. This man fits every description from the Bible of the 'Anti-Christ'!
"I'm just glad to know that there are others that are frightened by this man! Who is Barack Obama? Very interesting and something that should be considered in your choice.
"If you do not ever forward anything else, please forward this to all your contacts...this is very scary to think of what lies ahead of us here in our own United States...better heed this and pray about it and share it. snopes.com confirms this is factual. Check for yourself.

"Barack Hussein Obama has joined the United Church of Christ in an attempt to downplay his Muslim background. ALSO, keep in mind that when he was sworn into office he DID NOT use the Holy Bible, but instead the Koran. Barack Hussein Obama will NOT recite the Pledge of Allegiance nor will he show any reverence for our flag. While others place their hands over their hearts, Obama turns his back to the flag and slouches. Do you want someone like this as your PRESIDENT?

Ms. Millican has denied she wrote the email and her church has sent out the following:
It has been brought to our attention that an e-mail has been circulating from our pastor's wife, Darlene Millican about Barack Obama, with the subject line: "Is He the Anti-Christ?".This is absolutely NOT TRUE!!
Mrs. Millican has absolutely no idea how this horrible e-mail was started AND named her as the originator of such slander.
Luke 6:47 (NKJ) states, "Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: "He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock."
Darlene has spent her life teaching others to be and do their best for Christ . . . which includes not slandering others!
We also have no idea how it would be sent out using the Church's e-mail. Trinity Baptist Church's statement is that, "Everybody is somebody . . . and Jesus Christ is Lord" and our Pastors and Administration is absolutely aghast that this slanderous message is circulating about Barak Obama.

Nothing new here.These are the same type of emails I was getting about Kerry during the 2004 Election. Only now I don't get them because I would usually reply with a link to Snopes.com. FACTS are just a nuisance to Right-wingers. Something best to be avoided.

Well, if Barack is the Anti-Christ then I guess there's no point in sweating whether or not he wins in November since Satan will ensure his victory. No point in campaigning even. This should be a landslide.

This email is one reason I was so angered by the New Yorker's cover. So many people will read the email from friends, relatives and just the viral and believe it for fact while they will not bother to actually do any kind of web search or pay attention to the article which tell the truth. These are the sam people who do not read the magazines which also give a more balanced view but when you consider the MSM which actually has not been a friend to obama like they are to macinbush these people getting the news from Faux will not know thw truth anyway. The very idea of putting all of the fears together to make a picture (cover) which portrays every fear someone who is ignorant by choice or by design, just reinforces every single fear. No Jon Stewert it is not just a cartoon. It is encouraging fears and racist.

I got this exact same email about 2 weeks ago from some of my conservative colleagues. I asked them if the Bible is dictating the world through scripture then there is nothing they could do about it. Isn't that true, Christians believe that the scripture will come to pass?
But I sent back an email of the Newsweek story and 10 other articles that have found no truth to these stupid rumors. And I provided links and actual sources.
This email never orginated from that church and that lady. If it had, they'd be proud to be "fighting the good fight." The denials sound genuinely appalled.
What is really not funny at all is that someone who is a very sophisticated hacker has broken into the church's computer files to make it appear that this email originated from that church and from the pastor's wife. Now, who would have a lot of money to hire someone with sufficient skills---and no morals---to do such a thing? Who stands to gain? What is the Republican Party famous for? We're being wagged here by the usual liars and smear machine. This time they're trying to do it without having to take the public heat for it by laying it on innocents. We can at least be aware of where it's coming from. Just keep on setting people straight one at a time or in groups. The Republicans need a new symbol----something big and green and ugly with warts and foot long nose hairs would just about fit their image. Anybody know some really good hackers who could trace this back to who really owns it? Wouldn't that make a nice headline story? Republicans illegally hack into church computer to lay blame for smear campaign on innocents.
I guess Trinity Baptist Church isn't on the list for any of The O-Man's faith-based bonanza!!

Glad you posted a link to the smears page. I received that e-mail weeks ago. This shows you how stupid some people think we are. All you have to do is read the book to find out the e-mail is not true--either way out of context, or a total fabrication.
Problem is, this keeps popping up in blogs--to prove what????
ARe we sure that America is a western Industrialized country because this email makes America sound like one of those Islamic fundamentalist country they rail against. Have folks lost their minds seriously. I see now why McCain is doing so well. Many AMericans think Obama is the devil I'm flabbergasted by this its one thing to think he is muslim but the Devil WTH!! What does that make Cheney and Bush? There is ignorance and there is this.
This email is so depressing. I feel so sad the hope just went out of me like the air out a balloon. We are doomed not because of the Anti christ because of our stupidity.
