When Joe Scarborough Predicted Obama's Quick Demise

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

Maybe they should change the name of the show to Mourning Joe. While Joe the Fumbler has tried to jump on the Obama bandwagon, my search of the MSNBC site discovers a particularly acid attack on Obama by Scarborough from December 22, 2006.

Say it ain't so, Joe! Here is one highlight.

SCARBOROUGH: "Even before the final votes were tallied in the 2006 elections, politicians started lining up for the 2008 presidential sweepstakes. Without further ado, let me kill Hamlet in the first act and tell you how your favorite candidate will fare over the next 12 months.

"Barack Obama: Forget the fact this guy's middle name is 'Hussein.' Forget the fact he has been in national politics for less than two years. Forget the fact that Hillary Clinton will raise more money than God in 2007. Forget all of that, the Washington press tells us, because Barack Obama is none other than the second coming of JFK.

"Yeah, right. Barack Hussein Obama is more Johnny Bravo than John Kennedy. The vest fits and the fans scream while DC's star-maker machinery shifts into overdrive."

"Like Peter Brady's Bravo, Obama's shot at the top will be short lived. But since BHO is young enough, dynamic enough and (just) black enough to whip official Washington into a frenzy, expect this stupid story to stick around for a while. Soon enough though, this year's model will be shouting, "Please give a warm Chicago welcome to the next President of the United States, Hillary Clinton!'"

Then he went on to his Hillary assessment:

Cheering for New York's junior senator excites Democratic activists about as much as rooting for General Electric. Regardless of their hand wringing, Hillary Inc. will grind up and spit out any Democratic challenger that gets in its way. Ms. Clinton has completed six ruthlessly efficient years in the U.S. Senate and avoided even a whiff of scandal since Bubba moved to a separate zip code. But that doesn't mean the problematic ex-president won't be her campaign's chief asset. Time and again throughout the next few years, Bill Clinton will make the difference on fundraising, networking and strategy. And 2007 will show that any politico who dares to cross Team Clinton risks being crushed into dust.
Crushed into dust? Uh, not quite. * Greg Mitchell is editor of Editor & Publisher and its hot new blog. He is completing a book on the campaign to be published in January. For more info on that, contact him at: epic1934@aol.com

I'm sure Joey Scarborough received his RNC Talking Points. He went after Obama BECAUSE he was the second coming of JFK. As JFK's brother and daughter said. They might know.

He sure comes across as pompous, arrogant, opinionated. I dont know why they keep him on msnbc. when he walked away from Rachel Maddow on his show he seemed like a pouting child. I cant stand him or his political party.

I always felt that there was something in the water over there in Scarborough Country.

It was Greg, not Peter Brady who was tapped to portray Johnny Bravo.

Still, the piece about the horrible Zabar's shoppers was the real low.

MSNBC should finally realize that Joe has NO clue what's happening outside his bubble. Trade him to fox...

Morning Joe is at its best when Joe isn't on. For all those who claim MSNBC is biased towards the left, just look at how they keep people like Scarborough, Pat Buchanan and Tucker Carlson employed. I've watched Joe every morning carrying water for the GOP. Even this morning, he had the nerve to call the left narrow-minded because we dared to accuse the right of running a campaign based on fear. He calls on liberals to accept people with differing viewpoints, but he doesn't acknowledge that his own party has been unable to do the same. When he lost his evening show, I was thrilled. I can't for his morning show, which seems to be mostly commercials anyway, to die off. Scarborough can go to Fixed News where he belongs. Maybe he can take Buchanan and Alex P. Carlson with him.

Could have left Tucker off the list. Scarborough and Carlson where cloned from the same petri dish.

I second those that realize that good ole joe epitomizes the out-of-touch republican elitist party...they haven't a clue what real life is like for those in lower income brackets, especially seniors on social security or disabled (like I am) receiving the same..here in east tenn, for most, that $600-$1100 a month..with food, gas, medicine prices as they are...you end up just walking down the aisle to look at the roasts, steaks, etc..just to remember what they look like..I fill up once a month and try to make it last to doctor appts, etc..I hear them talk about things like saving, investments, etc...they have no meaning to me, it's just trying to make it thru the month...and often not succeeding..I rejoice today, and pray that change comes quickly, I could really use something to ease the burden of daily life..to not have to choose between medicine and groceries...joe has made remarks that I found so offensive I fumed for hours..mika is a good foil to take his bad taste out of my mouth..I hope the next four years "enlighten" mr. scarborough, he should come to east tenn, I would be glad to show him around the second america...

I truly hope things become easier for you in an Obama administration. This election is a victory for you and every other decent American who has been left behind.

Should rename the show "Morning Whine." Someone really ought to put together a youtube of this guy whining about how unfair the press is to conservatives. (i.e. if republicans did this there would be outrage) Even this morning as he himself professed the magnitude of this historic event in our American history, he couldn't help but whine about the unfair treatment of evangelical Bush supporters during the 2004 election. Something like: “Evangelicals lined up to vote, circling the block several times, standing in the rain, as people drove by the threw water on them, yata, yata, yata and Maureen Dowd mocked them, bla, bla bla”. This guy really should do himself a favor and stop reading the NY Times. I have been recording the show for the past 6 months as I like the diversity of guests. Can’t watch it in real time as I am on the west coast. Well, now that the election is over, guess that will free up some space on the DVR.

Even more wrong- Greg Brady was Johnny Bravo. Scarborough fails, again. Beady eyed pundits have the dumb.

Well, to fair to Joe, how many people thought that back in late 2006? I know that I didn't want to be an Obama supporter at the time, I was a Kucinich supporter, but knew that he wouldn't get chosen, so I was also an Edwards supporter. When Edwards dropped out before Super Tuesday I voted for Obama, but I KNEW that Hillary would win, and I was going to be a Hillary supporter!

Ain't hindsight great!

I did!! And I STILL don't understand why the rest of America couldn't see that Edwards and Clinton were wrong!!

If I could pick one reason to vote for Obama, it would have to be his choice for NOT GOING TO WAR!!!!!

Everybody is an Obama supporter now, after the fact. I thought the Clinton machine would crush him too. The point is that Obama proved himself to be the better campaigner and the better candidate.
