Valentine Vineyards

What could be better than a wine named Valentine for Valentine's? Well, we'll get to that in a second, but these wines from Valentine Vineyards, a small winery in Southern Mendocino County, would certainly add some thoughtful pizzazz to a V-Day celebration.

For me, Saint Amour is the crowning glory of the "Cru Beaujolais," the highest rating classification of the multitude of vineyards in the appelation. Takes the Gamay grape to luscious heights.

I recently had a great red by Irony, Russian Valley. Unfortunately, I had it at restaurant that was short lived, and I have not been able to find the wine in regional wet counties. :-(

Oh my, oh my ... I experienced the Ménage à Trois wine a few weeks ago, a red though. To my surprise, it was absolutely engaging... One of the best wines I've enjoyed in a while ... The wine club I normally order from does not carry this particular wine, unfortunately. May just pick up a case through a local store.

JFaye....Menage a Trois is one of our favorites too. And since its affordable, its usually on our table. We like the red a whole lot better than the white. Hint - Harris Teeter supermarkets carry it and offer 15% discounts at the end of every month on case buys.

Thank you "oldgraymare." Harris-Teeter is not in my market, but if they ship ... I will order. Again, thank you.

Its owned by Sutter Home and should be avalible anywhere, really. Check with your local supermarket, even if you have to special order it will be cheaper than through a wine club. There's a red, white and rose.

Thank you ... Purchased a few bottles at Whole Foods on Saturday... Probably paid too much at whole paycheck ... but, such is life.

Nothing says "You are the only one for me!" like a something, anything, labeled Menage a Trois. My goodness, that's funny.

The Ménage à Trois is good and so is O. Try to find a bottle of J vintage brut if you really wanna get some.

Agreed. I have dozens of 95+ rated wines in my cellar. But Menage (red blend) is the "house pour" for everyday. $9 and drinks like $20.

Love the wines at Folie a Deux (Menage a Trois) - great little spot to stop, sip, and have a picnic too if you're in the area. A family favorite!

The Menage a trois is surprisingly good for an inexpensive table wine.

If you are looking for great Pinot Noir may I suggest Santa Barbara Country Santa Rita Hills Appellation. Here's a few: if you can find some Sea Smoke is at the top of the list, either the 10 or Southing; Cargasacchi; Sanford; Thorne Cellars; Zotovitch; Alma Rosa; The Hitching Post has several to choose from: These are just a few that I have tasted over 30 years of travel to the valley, and wine clubs I have joined.

Zinfandel is good stuff. You can get a really good zin for a small price too. I think it has a certain decadence to it, a little more fruit. It can work well with a whole meal -- appetizers to desert.

Since you like Zins try Grey Wolf Cellars, Big Bad Wolf, great wine from Paso Robles, CA. If you like Cabs they make one called Alpha Dog that is awesome, that is if you can find it.

lol -- I can dream. I am stuck with supermarkets for the most part, a couple of wine shops that have budgets that make me question what their more expensive stuff is like. I think I have seen Alpha Dog though -- sounds familiar. I find zins to be more versatile than most -- I think because they were trendy before people shifted away from them to the Cabs and Merlots. I am waiting for the day I don't have to pretend I love a Chardonnay that tastes like oak chips soaked in butter. Americans -- what are you going to do with them? .

Delicious wine! Subtle hits of cherry and chocolate, great Valentines Day choice.

I can vouch for Ménage à Trois. The wine! Ha.

Honestly my GF and I drank a bottle of Ménage à Trois Red 2009 last night. Pretty amazing. Especially considering that we bought it for $6.99. Probably the best sub $10 bottle of wine we've ever had. I'm going to buy a whole case.

P.S. Whole Foods has M.à.T. for $7.99 a bottle. Big sale from Feb 11-14. Buy any 6 bottles and get 30% off.
