We haven't even put a dent in it. It's arguable that the laughably low approval rating the public gives the Democratic-run Congress is attributable to that body's failure to move the ball one inch down the field. Worse, the Democratic leadership has looked feckless, confused, spineless and outmaneuvered at every turn by the administration and its Republican allies, frightened though the latter may be to be tied to the war come next election day. Today, the Politico echoes what Mike Gravel contended in the Dartmouth debate -- the Congressional Dems could do far more to stop the war...if they wanted to.

I am just sick of this
and Hillary voted yesterday to back Leiberman and attack Iran.
WTFk is all that?
Most of the candidates are already in office and they refuse to stop the war. They refuse to do anything. Nada.
The freakin neo'cowards must be laughing their neo'asses off.
They are about to start it up again with Iran and we are the bunch of losers.
We The People...yeah right.
I think that it is by now extremely obvious that the Congress is moving, has moved, and continues to move "the war" in PRECISELY the way it has always intended to do. They have voted for it, and voted to continue it, dozens of times. And furthermore, both Republicans and Democrats are voting.
We have all, in short, been betrayed.
These men and women, who individually make about $147,000 a DAY in bribes, have profiteered enormously from this war, will profiteer even more WHEN (not if) it escalates, and have done every single thing by deliberate choice.
I'm sick of these candidates making a fortune off of running for president.
They are continuing the war to further their campaigns.
Hitler took the Maikop oil fields and headed for the Caucasus oil fields. Japan took the oil-rich Dutch East Indies. America blew through its oil supporting the Allied war effort so FDR met with the Saudis two months before his death but just after the Yalta Conference. He cut the British out of the deal.
Eisenhower helped the British back into the game with the overthrow on the Iranian government in 1953. The Shah reined supreme until the Student Revolution. President Carter, in effect, declared the Middle East America's new oil fiefdom. The Nixon Doctrine, the Bush I Gulf War; Clinton's economic sanctions and no-fly zones, oil for food program; and, Operation Iraqi Liberation are all a continuing part of firmly established United States policy to control, have access to, or own their oil.
Israel has been the U.S.'s "junior partner" in maintaining this effort in the Middle East. Their assistance helped keep the Soviets out.
Why do you think that the Democrats want to abandon their access to or control of someone else's oil? Also, we need to fend off competitors.
Peace just ain't going to happen. That's the sad truth. Cheney set the energy policy to continue or reliance on oil. Did LBJ withdraw from Vietnam? The elephant and the donkey are the same animal under the skin.
It's sure not going to happen as long as we stay there. The whole country is a right wing experiment in "free" market capitalism, and "terrorists" are the perfect foil to keep us there forever, which is the plan.
Shock Capitalism
I consider these worthless Dems to be willing co-conspirators. Disgusting.
Vote Green!
Harry, the war is over!!!! The occupation, on the other hand, is just beginning. How thrilling it must be for Hillary to contemplate sending American children to their deaths before many of them have even had a life. 2013. That's when she'll consider redeploying out of Iraq. Oh, well, no one said living in a facist dictatorship was fair or easy.
The DLC strategy is working perfectly.
Maintain the occupation.
Blur the debate.
Make "progress" a remote possibility in order to avoid fence-sitters from taking a stand that could be used against them... dividing Democrats.
Wag the dog with DLC/neocon PNAC plans for Iran.
Continue media manipulation to further these goals.
Work to elect Hillary or a Republican willing to carry out their agenda.
Ending the war isn't part of the plan.
It's called the "false surrender," Harry: they're doing it to make Republicans look even more obstinate and foolhardy on the subject, and guarantee a victory in 2008 by keeping this albatross around Bush's neck.
They are tanking worse than the "Black Sox" of Chicago/baseball fame. They probably aren't even
getting as much dough out of the deal.
The Black Sox had a better reason and got cheated anyway. Their reason: The way capitalist boss, Comiskey, mistreated his slaves, refused to give them a fair shake. The cheating: they didn't get all the Rothstein money promised them for the dive.
Such as refusing to schedule a vote on the $190 billion request Gates just made? That would be a start. As for putting a dent in the war, didn't the surge start in January, 2 months after the Dems were given majorities in both houses? So not a dent so much as escalation. I don't see why Harry Reid even bothers to wear pants to work, since the Republicans are going to pants him everyday anyway. Just remember, as his mother must have told him, to always wear clean shorts in case something happens, like getting overwhelmed by your Republican counterparts.
He may wear pants to cover the fact that he doesn't have anything to cover. Or if he does have two, he's wearing them under false pretense.
The war is a symptom of and a distraction to the deconstruction of our Constitution.
And Harry Reid puts his shorts on backwards!
I wonder if if it bothers our Fearless Patron to have the same first name as that "boy named Sue" beheading the Senate.
