Harvey Grossman, J.D, is the legal director of the ACLU of Illinois. He has served as counsel in scores of civil liberties and civil rights cases involving free speech, racial discrimination and police misconduct. Mr. Grossman has been lead counsel in a series of cases directed at preventing unwarranted street stops and sweep arrests in public housing and on the streets of Chicago’s minority neighborhoods, including City of Chicago v. Morales, in which the Supreme Court struck down the City’s loitering ordinance. He also has been lead counsel in a number of racial profiling cases. He presently serves as co-lead coordinating counsel in the consolidated cases challenging the unlawful disclosure by various telecommunications companies of electronic communications and records to the NSA.

He is a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Law, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif.
