Harvey Kubernik is a native Angeleno, born on the border of Los Angeles and East Hollywood and the author of the books “This Is Rebel Music (2004) and “Hollywood Shack Job: Rock Music In Film and On Your Screen (2007) both published by the University of New Mexico Press. In 2006 Kubernik penned the liner notes to the Water Records’ CD reissue of Allen Ginsberg’s “Kaddish” LP, originally produced by Jerry Wexler for Atlantic Records in 1965. In summer 2007 Kubernik conducted an extensive 32-page interview with Brian Wilson utilized for his concert tour program. He appears on screen as a feature interview subject in the 50th anniversary edition DVD of Elvis Presley’s “Jailhouse Rock” released by Warners Home Video. This summer Kubernik will have related feature articles on the Monterey festival published in both the “MOJO” magazine Summer of Love issue and the Summer of Love “Goldmine” periodical. In fall he will lecture on college campuses. Kubernik has been an active music journalist since 1972, and a record producer since 1979. He is a former West Coast Director of A&R for MCA Records. In November 2006 Kubernik was invited to speak to the Library of Congress National Recording Preservation Board in Hollywood, Ca. for their study on he Current State of Recorded Sound Preservation. Kubernik is a music historian and pop culture archivist and researcher and has credits in over 150 books and television programs. In addition, Kubernik develops strategic marketing and media campaigns for filmmakers, musicians and entertainment companies.
