Fascinating People of 2010

After tuning into the eagerly awaited "10 Most Fascinating People of 2010", I have to question how the featured individuals were chosen. Today, overall media rarely gives recognition to those who do well for the world. Instead it seems to be based off of television ratings. People are quickly remembered for the ignorant things, and seldom the positive. So how does the Jersey Shore get nominated on Barbara Walter's yearly special? I think everyone is asking the same question.

In the current state of our economy, people are consciously seeking out a slice of hope and inspiration. The economy has affected everyone around us who is in search of the light at the end of the tunnel. I find encouragement in looking to those who have made a tasteful effort in choosing to get involved. Influential people to me are those who are remembered for impacting lives around them; selfless people who become fascinating because of how they impact others in a positive way.

I want to shine the spotlight on fashion designer Tory Burch. Growing up my family has always donated to Opportunity International which helps provide micro-finance loan programs for those in need. This is why I look to Tory Burch. She is not only an award winning designer and working mother of 3 but an active philanthropist. In 2009 she founded The Tory Burch Foundation which specifically provides equal opportunity to low income families who need financial support to help their existing small businesses or help finance an emerging one. Entrepreneurs are able to directly apply for micro-finance loans through her website.

When speaking with Tory Burch about the Tory Burch Foundation, she said, "Besides my children, the Tory Burch Foundation is one of my favorite things because it's able to support and help so many people in a positive way."

So why didn't someone like Tory Burch make the list of the 10 Most Fascinating People of 2010?

Public figures need to regain consciousness and be more active in our communities to help and participate to create job opportunities, and proactively dedicating time to helping those who are in need. Using the example of a fascinating fashion icon such as Tory Burch is what I would consider more than credible.

The Tory Burch Foundation has special edition Tory Burch items for sale in which all profits go back to the foundation. The items range from a classic tote bag $75, iconic charm bracelet $295, a chic white t-shirt $45 and signature flips flops $45. For more info visit her website, http://toryburchfoundation.org/.
