I Like Being Naked

Often I get pop ups or suggestions to check out the "hottest female athletes" or the "hottest daughters of professional athletes." Actually, that makes me wonder what in my browsing history makes me a candidate for such suggestions.

I'm fine with anyone wanting to flaunt their hot bods off the field if they want to. No problem with that. Hey, you earned it. Do it before the girls head south and the wrinkles and cellulite set in. Why not?

But when I go to high school games and see girls with makeup on, perfectly manicured nails and their hair pulled back with nary a flyaway I wonder if I'm front row at the fashion week runway or an actual sporting event.

Had I applied mascara to my lashes when I played sports I would have looked like Carrie on stage right before she unleashes her wrath after getting pig blood dumped onto her.

I don't know how these girls do it? I don't perspire. I sweat. Buckets of sweat. I sweat reading a book. I look like I took a shower after a game before even entering the shower stall. My blonde hair looks brown because it's soaked to the roots.

Applying makeup before a work out or game never crossed my mind. I hardly wear any makeup now for that matter.

I don't think the guys are sporting the blush or eye shadow when they dribble in for a layup. Although Tom Brady is very pretty. He might be sporting some foundation under that helmet. Seriously, how does he look THAT good after a game?

When did we become so photo-op ready? Is it because every phone now carries a camera and photos are being snapped as often as we take in oxygen? It is because of social media, where we constantly try to impress and put our best face forward?

What's so bad about looking like you just, well, played a tough game?

In the end I still prefer my makeup to be applied naturally. I get my flushed cheeks from working out, or shooting hoops outside with my kids. My healthy sheen is from practicing yoga or coaching soccer.

Granted, I may not look like I belong on the pages of a fashion magazine, but that's fine by me. It's less work putting on my face everyday. I guess you could say I like being naked.
