Heather grew up in Indiana, where she spent her childhood exploring her artistic side as well as her entrepreneurial nature— at age seven she started her first business: painting rocks with her mother’s nail polish and selling them at the end of her driveway.

Years later, still intrigued in business, Heather attended the Kelley School of
Business at Indiana University where she earned a Bachelors of Science in
Marketing. But it wasn’t until spending a semester abroad in Europe that Heather realized her passion for food and the art of dining well.

After graduating university, Heather arrived in New York City, and began her
career as a food writer and restaurant critic for Time Out New York magazine.
At TONY she reviewed hundreds upon hundreds of the city's top bars and
restaurants (it wasn’t a bad gig). She has freelanced for several UK publications, including Olive and The Sunday Times. Heather has also made TV appearances to discuss her food knowledge and restaurant expertise, including the Food Network, LX TV and NBC.

As a restaurant critic for an important cultural magazine, people looked to
Heather as an authority on where to dine in the city. In 2006 she launched
Sorted, a private concierge service for distinguished clients that specializes in
restaurant reservations, dining consultation and event planning.

In 2008 Heather stepped into the other side of the hospitality industry, and
together with her brother and co-owner Christopher Tierney, she launched
Apotheke, an acclaimed cocktail bar on a clandestine street in Chinatown.
Apotheke has won numerous awards for cocktail excellence and has been
featured in several publications for its stunning interiors, including the design
book, Dark Nostagia by Eva Hagberg.

In 2011, Christopher and Heather opened their second venture, Pulqueria, a 75-seat old-world Mexican restaurant and pulque bar, located next door to Apotheke. In her free time Heather enjoys traveling, watching unusual documentary films, and creating unique concoctions with her new Breville juicer.
