Gas prices killing you? ExxonMobil is NOT feeling your pain. In fact, thanks to skyrocketing oil prices, they're now making $5 million an hour.

That's profit, not sales.

ExxonMobil booked $11 billion of net profit in the first quarter--almost $1 billion a week.

Gas prices are not killing me. I drive a Prius. 40 miles on the price of a happy meal. My annual return on investment on that car is probably around 8% and growing. By the time I need to get a new one, it will probably have paid for itself. I sometimes wonder, though, what would have happened if I had gotten that Hummer instead? Oh, well, water down the bridge. Nothing I can do about it now. I just have to live with not having to care about the price of gas, be that $4/gallon or $10. It just does not make a dent in my income.

Word. My wife and I moved closer to work and carpool in our Prius so we wouldn't have to care about gas prices. Higher gas prices don't bring me down; they increase our return on investment.

Good for you that higher gas prices don't bring you "down". But it is affecting higher costs of food production and it's transportation along with other goods. For many, this inflationary pressure will have unfortunate impacts. We have become addicted to what was reasonably-priced energy until recently and can't rapidly break this addiction. The energy sector has us axactly where the wanted us--addicted and dependant with few places to turn to!

I'm looking into it right now, and I would have done so earlier before, except that even with the reduced gas I was unable to afford a hybrid of ANY sort.....
