Ferraro on Obama: Not a Racist -- Just an Idiot

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

Geraldine Ferraro stands by her remarks on Barack Obama and says she's hurt that they have been spun in such an outrageous way:

"if Obama was a white man," Ferraro said, "he would not be in this position...And if he was a woman he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept."

Is that racist? No. It's just moronic.

Let's look at a few of the Obama qualities that voters are responding to:

--Eloquent
--Smart
--Good looking
--Inspiring
--Young
--Charming
--Well-Educated
--Breath of Fresh Air

Does Ferraro seriously believe that a white Obama with all of the qualities above "would not be in this position?" The Democrats have been waiting a decade for someone with these qualities to come along, and they'd take him or her in any shape, size, color, or species.

Why is Obama whipping Hillary, for example--despite her far-greater experience? Because she doesn't have half of them.

I've always admired Geraldine Ferraro. I'm sorry to learn that she's braindead.

Serial killers have all the qualities you listed for Obama too. What about a good plan for leading the country. No that's not in your list because his followers don't need plans, ideas, policies. You just need HOPE. Oh and the guy has to be good looking too.

Where would Ferraro be if her husband wasn't a crook? You'd think that one of such a distinguished background would have learned to practice discretion. Or, once a soldier, always a soldier.

"Idiot" may be too strong. "Moronic" seems to fit better.
What a shame. Just think, if age is playing a factor in Ferraro making comments like these, where does that leave straight-talking John McCain? We will hear something "moronic" from him--soon.
Bet on it!

This is just so sad a legacy for the first woman to be nominated for VP. I am an over 50 anglo woman who is supporting Obama because of his government in the sunshine stances, his stance on Iraq and diplomacy instead of imperialism, his electability, and his above board campaign. I am also an adoptive mother with two African American sons. It seems that Ms. Ferraro as an important person in the Democratic party should be trying to expand the "big tent" but with her divisive stance it appears she would prefer to have the Democratic party be a cozy little clubhouse with a secret password. it's hard to see how this is a strategy that wins a general election. What a sad, sad, day for America!

She is an old school divisive politician made out of the same cloth as the Clintons. Notice her comments were to try to "WEDGE" white men, white women, Asian-Americans who feel they have been victims of Affirmative Action, and black women. And in typical Clinton fashion come out and try to beat back the press. I hope Keith kicks her Arse tonight. And where are the Elders of the Democratic Party now. Someone has to step in put a stop to this now.

Exactly. I don't care about the candidate's gender, race or number of limbs. I decide on issues and character. I vote for the candidate who might lead my country in the direction I like it to go.
Ferraro is just bitter for whatever reasons, I guess it's hard to lose a race when you thought winning was inevitable. But that's what made this country great and what could lead it back on the path of glory: the impossible can happen if enough people are willing to take care.

So, where would Ferraro be if she weren't a woman? And for that matter where would Hillary be is she weren't married to a former president?

Really insultingly stupid conversation to focus the public on especially in an election year.

This is ludicrous on so many levels. Look it it from another point of view. Ferraro was the VP candidate for what reason? Her ability to pass the CIC threshold? Her extensive experience and distinguished legislative record? Or her gender?

Grow up, Ferraro - or shut up.

That is a very kind spin to put on it because we are so horrified at the Clinton campaign's tactics and it is difficult to accept that they are not deliberately stirring this up for the Pennsylvania primary. The pattern is very clear.

That is even sadder and more horrifying and unfortunately in light of Maggie Williams statement yesterday probably true.

I wish some analyst would look at the huge % of African American vote the Sen. Obama gets and think about the fact (speaking as a member of a mixed race family here so don't flame me) that if you're African American in America today a message of changing the way politics is "done" and putting the peoples voices back in Washington instead of special interests may be a message that you're willing to go the extra mile to vote for.

Maybe someone who tells you that if we just start trying to work together and get the greater good for the most people is a message that resonates with a lot of people?
