17.5 Million Better Ways to Use Your Canned Goods

How do you stop hunger? Canstruction, the #1 single day food drive, is more than your typical. Adopting the idea that one can of food can make a difference, Canstruction, Inc. -- a nonprofit organization -- holds annual design and building competitions to construct fantastic, giant sized, structures made entirely out of canned food.

Canstruction uses one can of food as a catalyst for change -- to represent the building blocks of massive sculptures. Since 1992, Canstruction has contributed over 17.5 million pounds of food to community food banks demonstrating that we can win the fight against hunger.

Take a look at how architects and their teams come together as a community:

In each city after the structures are built and the winners declared, the creations go on view to the general public as giant art exhibits. Canstruction allows people to look at every day objects in a non-every day way and raise awareness of a problem.

At the close of the competitions all of the food used in the structures is donated to the local food banks for distribution to community emergency feeding programs. To find out more about Canstruction and where their next event is, visit their website.
