Christmas is a very special time of the year. Families gather to spend time with loved ones. It is also a time to decorate and enjoy other decorations around town! Lucas Oppelt loves this time of the year and decorating his home; unfortunately he is physically unable to do it anymore. Lucas served a 10 year active duty as a combat line medic in the Army and was injured in May 2012 after stepping on an IED. He suffered a traumatic right leg amputation, left leg nerve/tissue damage, a TBI, and suffers from PTSD. After returning home after spending 3 years at Water Reed, he can enjoy the holidays in the comfort of his own with his beautiful family. But one thing was missing - decorations.
The Decorated Family Program began in 2003 after a Christmas Décor franchisee realized all of the military members overseas who will not be able to celebrate with those they love. The program spread quickly and is now in its sixth official season. Christmas Decor franchises are proud to have an extra special way to thank our country's soldiers for their dedication and support by decorating their families' homes. People can nominate deserving military families in their community by filling out the nomination form available on the Christmas Decor fan page on Facebook.
