HuffPost's Alex Wagner appeared Monday on MSNBC's 'Hardball with Chris Matthews' to discuss Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.).
Wagner explained that for the Democratic party, the Anthony Weiner scandal has "now become a question of leadership as the RNC would have it ... the chair of the RNC is saying, this is a problem with Democratic leadership, they can't control their caucus. Which is the last thing Nancy Pelosi wants right now."
Describing Weiner's future career options, Wagner said that Weiner's seat in Congress "is all he has. He probably doesn't have the mayorship of New York anymore, that dream is gone. This is all he has and I think, as much as anything, he needs to hold onto this for his own sanity. I mean, he's lost everything effectively if he gives up this seat."

" Chris Matthews on MSNBC’s Hardball last week giggled with guests Alex Wagner of Politics Daily and Richard Wolffe as they tried to convince viewers that Christine O’Donnell is a “cute” candidate but her “claim to fame is ‘I don’t know nuthin’.’” Matthew’s remarked on O’Donnell’s “cuteness” and appeal and in the same breath called her a “deadbeat.” Amazing that an attack ad against O’Donnell can bring Matthews to the conclusion that O’Donnell is a “deadbeat” but Geithner is a person who we can thank for “saving” the economy."
I am amazed by how often Chris Matthews is criticized here, for his bombast (and yes, I agree, tho' I tend to be a fan of passion...). But he was one of the first persons who dedicated himself to the Peace Corps and lived a public service life for some time. I don't always agree with him, but he asks great, historically-grounded questions.
So I guess I'm wondering why HP rehashed the inane Weiner segment on its front page, and ignored an amazing last half hour of today's "Hardball" dealing with what Chris Matthews openly called voter suppression by the recently-"anointed" Republican governors?
