Arianna co-hosted MSNBC's "Morning Joe" today, joining Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski in Los Angeles. The topics ranged from Jon Stewart facing off against Bill O'Reilly on Fox News to President Obama's Q&A sessions with House Republicans and Senate Democrats to the massive recall issued by Toyota.
At one point the subject of Glenn Beck came up, and Arianna argued that we must make a clear distinction between "passion based on facts and passion based on fantasy":
Glenn Beck is all fantasy and fabrication and that's the problem. It's not the passion -- I love the passion, I love the emotion, even.

Re your comments about Rahm vs Rush ... Rahm is a FEDERAL employee who works under guidelines about language in the office place ... just so you know.
I work a a federal facility, a well-known health-related facility, where we have great respect for those with all sorts of medical conditions and work hard every day to address them - and yet, I'm unaware of any 'guidelines' of the type you mentioned.
What Rahm said was crude, obtuse, and potentially hurtful to a lot of people - but not covered (or "controlled") by any 'guidelines' that wouldn't ALSO apply to Rush Limbaugh.
Look...I am not advocating deficit spending -- far from it. What I don't like is apocalyptic talk from a biased, unbalanced, dolt who was lucky enough to find a network and audience with which to make himself rich.
What happened to us making products in this country and keep the dollars circulating within US? I know I will be labeled as a protectionist for saying this but it's about time US impose heavy tariff on imported products except oil. This is the only way we can jump start the economy that has been going downhill for three decades. Stimulus or tax cut won't help. If you give both to American people, they will spend the money on cheap imported goods from China. This only enriches Chinese economy and its people while the Joe sixpack in USA looks for jobs in the service industries like health care, restaurants, law enforcement, banks, fire department, etc. There is no net gain of "stuffs" with these service industries jobs. We need to make products in this country. Until that happens, there is no hope for USA.
These wingnuts have been told not to like government and so they don't like America's free educational system. So what happens? These people do everything to gut the public school system and to put a good education into the hands of people with money. GB's viewers do believe that he is speaking the truth, so they become even angrier. There is NO ONE on the left in the main stream media who is making stuff up. You may not agree with the very, very, very few programs that are liberal in the msm, but they do rely on facts. Faux News is just another part of the entertainment industry.
And Beck doesn't go "unchallenged", far from it. But calling him names is not challenging him. Challenge his statements head on and provide a logical rebuttal. Name calling and using unspecific insults like "fantasy" does not challenge him.
I also believe that all the talk about Obama having this super majority is just nonsense. The moderate democratic senators are more Republican than the even the far-right members. At best Obama has between 38 and 41 senate votes he can rely upon. In the fall, it looks like that number will be about the same, maybe a bit less, but the middle 20 people will all be moderate Republicans instead of moderate Dems.
Bush had no far fewer Republicans for most of his term and they were a minority his last two years, yet he still got a lot of stuff he wanted done.
That should tell you where the citizens are. It's not far left or far right but conservative leaning centrist.
