Arianna Co-Hosts 'Morning Joe' On MSNBC (VIDEO)

What's Your Reaction:

Arianna co-hosted MSNBC's "Morning Joe" today, joining Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski in Los Angeles. The topics ranged from Jon Stewart facing off against Bill O'Reilly on Fox News to President Obama's Q&A sessions with House Republicans and Senate Democrats to the massive recall issued by Toyota.

At one point the subject of Glenn Beck came up, and Arianna argued that we must make a clear distinction between "passion based on facts and passion based on fantasy":

Glenn Beck is all fantasy and fabrication and that's the problem. It's not the passion -- I love the passion, I love the emotion, even.

The only mandate the republicans have for these country is for Obama to fail. They want to keep this country dumb, sick and poor.

Dear Arianna,
Re your comments about Rahm vs Rush ... Rahm is a FEDERAL employee who works under guidelines about language in the office place ... just so you know.
07:21 AM on 02/05/2010
REALLY? ...and what guidelines are those - specifically please, I'd like to look them up?

I work a a federal facility, a well-known health-related facility, where we have great respect for those with all sorts of medical conditions and work hard every day to address them - and yet, I'm unaware of any 'guidelines' of the type you mentioned.

What Rahm said was crude, obtuse, and potentially hurtful to a lot of people - but not covered (or "controlled") by any 'guidelines' that wouldn't ALSO apply to Rush Limbaugh.

Hello Rope A Dope and fans. Well respond to the challenge in regards to America buying up the UK debt during WW1 and becoming pawns to us, as China is doing to our debt today. Already we are reducing our spying on them and Australia wont raise interest rates. Prove that Beck's theory is wrong.
04:13 PM on 02/04/2010
do you have a source in the CIA that also confirms your claim that we are reducing our spying on the Chinese? I have a source in the CIA that says we have increased our spying. There! Crisis averted. The fact that China is buying 30 year treasuries means they are getting good investments. Problem with all of the "what if they stop" rhetoric is the Chinese will suffer too if the US economy falters...we are after all their biggest customer. Besides, it seems likely that the Japanese will step in an buy some 30 year treasuries as a replacement.

Look...I am not advocating deficit spending -- far from it. What I don't like is apocalyptic talk from a biased, unbalanced, dolt who was lucky enough to find a network and audience with which to make himself rich.

So let's keep borrowing the dollar ourselves (read print) and spend that money we don't have on junk Chinese products.

What happened to us making products in this country and keep the dollars circulating within US? I know I will be labeled as a protectionist for saying this but it's about time US impose heavy tariff on imported products except oil. This is the only way we can jump start the economy that has been going downhill for three decades. Stimulus or tax cut won't help. If you give both to American people, they will spend the money on cheap imported goods from China. This only enriches Chinese economy and its people while the Joe sixpack in USA looks for jobs in the service industries like health care, restaurants, law enforcement, banks, fire department, etc. There is no net gain of "stuffs" with these service industries jobs. We need to make products in this country. Until that happens, there is no hope for USA.

Most of today's viewers are not smart enough. (High school drop-out rate is at an all time high!!) Did you see how many people in South Carolina were not sure that Hawaii was part of the United States.
These wingnuts have been told not to like government and so they don't like America's free educational system. So what happens? These people do everything to gut the public school system and to put a good education into the hands of people with money. GB's viewers do believe that he is speaking the truth, so they become even angrier. There is NO ONE on the left in the main stream media who is making stuff up. You may not agree with the very, very, very few programs that are liberal in the msm, but they do rely on facts. Faux News is just another part of the entertainment industry.

Keith Olberman is not an excuse or a justification for anything. The ledger-based mentality you endorse is harmful.

so true, as evidenced by, not only Fox commentators, but by the right wing GOPers . If only our lawmakers could work together to be inclusive and work thru problems instead of accusations and exaggeration meant to be divisive..

Why is Arianna setting herself up as the arbitor of truth?

And Beck doesn't go "unchallenged", far from it. But calling him names is not challenging him. Challenge his statements head on and provide a logical rebuttal. Name calling and using unspecific insults like "fantasy" does not challenge him.
01:51 PM on 02/04/2010
Its hard to challenge someone who makes sense. So you do the only thing possible, attack!
01:07 PM on 02/04/2010
I believe the great underestimation Obama made was when he thought the GOP actually wanted to help solve the problems of America. He really believes that good policy is good politics and while that may be true from a historical point of view, it does not hunt in partisan politics.

I also believe that all the talk about Obama having this super majority is just nonsense. The moderate democratic senators are more Republican than the even the far-right members. At best Obama has between 38 and 41 senate votes he can rely upon. In the fall, it looks like that number will be about the same, maybe a bit less, but the middle 20 people will all be moderate Republicans instead of moderate Dems.

That should tell the far left that the country is more centrist.
Bush had no far fewer Republicans for most of his term and they were a minority his last two years, yet he still got a lot of stuff he wanted done.

That should tell you where the citizens are. It's not far left or far right but conservative leaning centrist.
03:06 PM on 02/04/2010
NOt necessarily true if you're thinking the Senate numbers reflect the popular will. A senator from Wyoming (each state has two senators) gets the same vote as one from New York. But the NY senator represents 55 TIMES MORE people. If you look at where the moderate dems and the Republicans come from, it's clear that Repub senators have much more voting power than is reflected in popular opinion.
12:51 PM on 02/04/2010
Once again we have a situation where people allow Beck to continue unchallenged by saying there are crazy people on the left too, just like Beck. It's just not true, There are not people as extreme as Beck; certainly there are none with a television program. It is simply insane that a major television network, especially that bills itself as "fair and balanced" and the "most trusted name in news" features a guy that is neither fair, certainly not balanced, and cannot be trusted. This has to be what Ailes laughs about when he is behind closed doors.

Doug...I didn't say that the democratic party was lacking media....I said that the degree to which Beck has recklessly departed from reality is unchallenged.
01:08 PM on 02/04/2010
Why don't you watch an episode instead of listening to your friends. On yesterdays episode, he explained things so clear that even the most extreme hater of him could understand what's happening to us as a country, especially when it comes to China. Put your ideology aside, maybe for an hour and enlighten yourself.
01:22 PM on 02/04/2010
I watched his program yesterday. Beck is a master at hitting all of the anger points and the fear points. In the process he fools people just like you. I particularly enjoy it when he takes the magnet heads of people in the administration and then uses them on his chalk board to explain what "really" went wrong with the financial industry. Pathetic, simplistic, and not even plausible....keep watching....join the 9/12'ers and have a nice life.

Arianna is like a human Prozac pill for Scarborough. He was actually calm, rational, and, (shocker) agreeing with some of the points I've posted on this site for the past month, especially the part about Obama being too disengaged from trying to get policies through Congress.

You can knock me over with a feather right now.

I avoid watching this show, it's not balance at ALL but if I knew she was on there I probably would've watch to see what she thought so badly of the Obama's administration.....that's THE only reason he had her own his show to divide the base of the Dems which a lot of us thought of her but I guess some of us was wrong.
02:48 PM on 02/04/2010
you are absolutely right it is not balanced - there are too many dems and progressives on the show.
