Arianna visited the women of "The View" on Monday to talk about the re-release of her book, "Pigs at the Trough," as well as why the financial system remains in dire need of reform. Sherri Shepherd and Arianna discussed how failing CEOs are being propped up by taxpayer bailouts even as millions of ordinary Americans are losing their jobs and their savings, and Joy Behar called out the "corporate welfare" being spready by the federal government.
Arianna mentioned that the Huffington Post has been working to "put flesh and blood on the numbers" of the economic crisis -- to read more, check out the work of HuffPost's Economic Impact reporter Arthur Delaney.

I dont know if things are going downhill fast or I just become more aware? I guess
having the internet as a information tool shines light on what was previously unexposed.
but, I really think you are great and always make a attempt at watching your videos or seeing you on tv, I am a big fan I guess, maybe more like a air conditioner...
and so RIGHTLY BEAUTIFUL !
jealous, jealous.

They have their own style, but they can do the same kind of thing that Jon Stewart did to Jim Cramer, which they actually proved to Glenn Beck. They don't need to be Nobel Prize winning experts to fact check the kind of blatant fabrication that has destroyed the productive economy, such as the old "information society" propaganda that was being pushed during the dot-com bubble. Obviously, with education statistics lagging the rest of the developed world and especially in mathematics and physical science, that was never a credible "idea" about how the US economy might be really worth what it inflated to in the late '90s. It doesn't take a rocket scientist, probably just a few college intern researchers already sitting around the studio somewhere, just bringing actors their coffee & stuff.
This is how the free press can be most effective. It is also basically how scientific peer review works, and I think most of us find the reliability of modern technology pretty impressive, with the exception of some well-known software that is not Open Source. Oh, and quality control and product recalls are disturbingly common in the lobbyist-infested industry of pharmaceuticals as well, illustrating the need for *robust* and *open* review, and bringing us back to the original subject, Pigs at the Trough.
"In a free enterprise system they would have been allowed to fail."
Subsidizing corporations, while letting 45,000 people die every year rather than even partially socialize payment for medical care is not just corporatism. It is fascism. Propping up everybody is bona find socialism, and propping up nobody would be strict laissez-faire capitalism. Slight favoritism to corporations has been called "soft fascism" or corporatism. But when incorporating entitles collectives to special government treatment -- taxpayer money -- that dying people cannot get, that is not "soft" anything. It is fascism.
I love how you have the courage to speak out loud.
We are disgusted as you that Obama did not have the courage
to stick with his guns.
The money could have been better used to bailout the home owners.
The capitalist system has failed us.
More of a social system is required one that takes the community into account.
The bailout money was not theirs to choose where to spend ...it was raised by the
people and they are the ones that need to know that they have elected responsible
custodians of their money. Those that know what ethical governance is!
But the reality is that they have been sinking the boats of America's little people so that their one or two boats rise higher due to the additional water displacement.
(Prettier than saying that the Republicans thrive on the debris created by their crushing of the American Dream, don't you think? And not one word about inequitable free trade, "trickle-down" economics, or deregulation.
Oops.)
The hypocrisy on the left is that they only see corporate greed and not the greed of democrat politicians who plunder the citizens through taxation.
If democrats were really interested in the poor, there would be few of them since the democrats are so profoundly wealthy and can afford to help.
You will not see wealthy democrats give up their wealth to the poor. Instead, they want to loot the middle class and force them to do it through congress.
At least corporations provide jobs for people. Government provides tyranny at the point of a gun.
"why do Repubs always fight against increases in the minimum wage";
"why are the corporations sending jobs overseas";
"why do repubs always fight against the will of the people (affordable health care for all)";
"why did the repubs get us involved in Iraq, other than to assist the mil indus complex"
?
Actually, neither of these things is strictly true. The only thing corporations provide is capital to their shareholders. Sometimes that involves job creation - sometimes not. Lately, every time a corporation announces job cuts, their stock goes higher. Likewise, when there's a merger and redundant middle-management jobs are bound to be slashed, stocks soar again, further disproportionally enriching the few at the expense of the many.
Conversely, if any government is "of the people, by the people and for the people", then it is the people who determine the level of tyranny exercised by their government. When their fear level is elevated, as in after 9/11, they're likely to further empower their governments opportunities for tyranny - as in the Patriot Act.
Lobbyists, Selling scrap steel to China, Wall Street Greed and the Banking/insurance/medical greed. So many of our politicians are bought. Being a Congressman is no longer a noble responsibility as is being a Doctor. Its a means of profit. We have become Cattle that create revenue. If we become weak, we are slaughtered . We no longer produce. I have seen this over a 40 yr period. The FDA is controlled by the pharmaceutical Companies. The insurance company's flourish by NOT holding out Hands. Drugs are one third the price over the border.
Remember--if the government doesn't fear the people as opposed to the people fearing the government, we are fuked. .
I REPEAT!!!
THEY HAVE TO MAKE IT ILLEGAL FOR POLITICIANS TO TAKE MONEY FROM LOBBYIST!!!
BRIBE |brīb|
verb [ trans. ]
persuade (someone) to act in one's favor, typically illegally or dishonestly, by a gift of money or other inducement
I wish for that too, unfortunately THEY are the ones receiving the money. THEY making it illegal is as unlikely as THEY passing a medical tort reform bill. Both are the morally right thing to do, but its not in "THEY's" best interest. And we all know THEY would never consider ANYTHING that is not good for THEY. Congress = The Government OF THEY, BY THEY, and FOR THEY" The rest of you can go to hell. Am I a cynic? Or are most people just plain naive?

Now my question is this. If every budgetary item down to buying pencils is being scrutinized, why would someone do this??? (besides GREED)
