Thanks Arianna. You understood HRC's game. She tried the gender card but it did not work. Thank you for putting Dee dee Myers in her place. HRC was pinned down for her parsing on issues and her contradictions, not because she is a woman. Good job.
I would hope that gender would not make a difference in the voter's mind, but alas, I sure it does. Just as John Kennedy energized many Catholics, so it is that Hillary's gender energizes many women, regardless of her stands on the issues. It is only natural.
But what troubles me is that the Clinton camp seems to be gender card that will only serve to create division in our nation. We can recall that John Kennedy did his best to downplay his religion, to make it irrelevant to his qualifications as President. Indeed, he may have been the least religious president since World War II.
So, I hope that Hillary will say things like "I understand that I will face rough questions and tough debates. It is part of the process, just as Howard Dean, for example, faced tough criticisms when he was the frontrunner." Statements like that will help to focus our minds on the issues, rather than her gender.
For those of you who heard Oprah's interview regarding the abuse allegations at her South African School, you got a lesson in a true woman leader. Every question, even those challenging her judgment, was answered directly and clearly. At one point she stated “The buck stops with me.” I was proud of her as a leader and proud of her as a woman.
Oprah Winfry cast a huge shadow over Hillary Clinton. It is gratifying to know, if we hold to high standards, more capable women exist to be our first woman president. Straight talk, candor and “the buck stops with me” are required. A calculating Hillary Clinton does not fit that description.
Gender and race cards are the figment of media's imagination. We have come to the point when race and gender are irrelevant when it comes to politics so why aren't we behaving accordingly? How much longer are we going to keep seeing irrelevant segments like this one on ‘Today’ show that blatantly circumvent the issues and focus on non-issues? As long as this passes for discussion and news we deserve Bush and Chaney!
Every negative story about Hillary Clinton always makes to the top of Huffington Post. As the latest polls are showing, these attacks on Hillary are not doing Edwards and Obama any good.
Arianna, the mainstream media has Hillary on the "front runner" position. More and more Americans are realizing that Hillary wants to attack Iran and is backed by the oil companies and defense contractors. Gender, race or religion will NOT keep anyone in the #1 position. Remember Howard Dean? Or John McCain? Both did not win the Primary's. Both were the leaders in the Polls and MSM eyes. Will history repeat itself? Or will another election be ripped off? If the latter happens? Will the sheeple wake up? Hillary isn't going to win my vote. Kuchinich? Yea. He speaks the truth...and voted against the Iraqi war. I don't see myself stooping to another New World Order puppet. There are third party's in the Finals.
Peace to ya! Arianna!
She gets criticized for wearing pants, She gets criticized for showing a little cleavage. What really kills me are the republican women such as Mary Matalin, Lynn Cheney, Ann Coulter, Kellyanne Conroy, Bay Buchanan, the late Barbara Olson, Monica Crowley, Laura Ingraham, and the rest who criticize Hillary yet they make her look like Mother Theresa in comparison. They are such witches and bitches that look either like drag queens, skeletons or they've been to a Mary Kay makeover clinic. How do republican men have sex with them? They must have to think of other republican men.
All the Hillary critics are blowing this up more than it's worth. I expect that from her political rivals, but I'm disappointed when "journalists" pounce and attack Hillary on overblown and stretched out blame when there is no real there there.
When Obama sends a vitriolic black homophobe to represent him in black churches in South Carolina, Maureen Dowd and Arianna don't attack him for playing a
race/homophobia card. When Obama puts on a deep southern accent when speaking to a black audience in the south no one jumped on him the way everyone did when Hillary used a southern accent as a performance quoting a well-known black oration the way the orator had performed it. Both audiences loved it, but only Hillary was attacked as demeaning to black people. I think HIllary has the BEST chance of beating any Republican running, and these gratuitous attacks on her remind me of 2000. Why do the left wing and elite snobs of my party never learn that all they accomplish is losing elections that should be won.

We need to extend the 2 term law
to include relitives.
Then we can be sure
there will be
no more Clintons or Bushes.

Keep it up Arianna! What was this 'uncharted territory' and 'never happened before' as if this is totally unpredictable.
The only person that's making gender an issue is Hillary.
The gender card is pretty well summed up on Doonesbury this week: "Oh, sorry, I keep forgetting she's a woman."
