I am so glad that expanded broadband access is on the list for infrastructure improvements. The next step is to make sure that the cost is low enough for everyone to participate. I hope that there will be a program to ensure that everyone will have access to a household computer as well. Hand-me-down computers will be just fine for this. Computer manufacturers could encourage trade-ins that they could distribute to lower income households. A tax break would help with this. Everyone needs a computer now-a-days. A computer with internet access should be as ubiquitous as the telephone.
Travis put out the question, "Why would [people want to see other peoples's opinions]?"? That might be one of the reasons that newspaper circulation is falling. Former newspaper readers don't care for the opinions a paper presents.
I like especially when Arianna talked about that crap Trent Lott said and his subsequent resignation. Blogs have power and only one candidate recognized their power in the last election. It is especially true for the young generation.
You can listen to Tavis as we do, via NPR. Hit their website and find a station that carries his show and listen to it on your computer. We have put a transmitter on our 'house' computer that sends an FM radio signal; we then tune our radio in to that signal and listen all over the house; the Tavis Show, music... any radio station that put their show on the web comes through our stereo speakers all over the house. In particular, we listen to KPLU near Tacoma and KUOW out of Seattle. Check it out, you'll be glad you did.
I miss Tavis Smiley. Living here in No. Calif. the local PBS affiliate has stopped carrying his shows, probably because some REPUBLICAN who owns the station decided he didn't think anyone cared what Tavis had to say. The fact that we have a small black population makes his show, more, not less important to our community.
I ought to write a letter to the editor of our local rag and ask "Isn't it time to bring Tavis Smiley back?"

(btw) Is Tavis and Bill Richardson trying to start a trend? What happened to his beard?
