Arianna Discussing Rove's Attack on History with Keith Olbermann

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

Arianna appeared on Countdown tonight to discuss Karl Rove's efforts to rewrite history on the war in Iraq, George Orwell's 1984 and why Rove is a "shameless, remorseless and perhaps soulless political animal, who cannot help himself, even when he's out of the White House":

I find it disturbing that a publisher will print Rove's bovine pie as nonfiction and will be accorded a Library of Congress call number that denotes American history. Rove's publisher must choose social responsibility and not publish his book.

I loved that you decided to speak on this topic of Rove's dishonesty.

Joe Biden said something very interesting on PBS, tonight. He said "Honesty isn't just the best policy, it's also the best politics."

I have to admitt, I've been supporting Obama all along, but I still feel drawn to the common sense of Joe Biden. If he doesn't win the nomination, I think whoever wins the election should pick him for Secretary of State.

I have only one bone to pick about your Olbermann interview: MSNBC goes way out of their way to slog books of guests, and I've never seen them once hold yours up to the camera. Is that something that is intentional on their part, or your part? (I just think you are deserving and "On Becoming Fearless" is such a powerfull phrase... it would be nice to see it up there with all the others, that's all.)

Karl Rove is fabricating a defense to being a principal to launching the war on fraudulent grounds. 1984 has become 2007. Bending the Middle East to the will of the neocons failed. Taking us to war would ensure Bush's re-election, according to Bush himself. No, Karl was in the Committee to Reelect the President (CREEP). That was Nixon's reelection. Rove was the "brain" behind Bush. He used fear and hatred, even racism to achieve his ends. Rove will be judged accordingly.

the statements by rove are the first volley of neo-con revisionism ... the fact that he could make these assertions with a straight face would be uttely amazing if he wasnt such a scum bucket. his nickname "turdblossom" appears to be well earned!

I am wondering if any of the candidates think that it might be a good idea to reinstate the United States Constitution. Not one of them on either side has stated that they think that there is something very very wrong with the last 7 years and give assurances that it will not happen on "their watch." I am afraid that there will be no real new direction. If I thought Dennis could win he would have my vote. Do you think we will ever have Democracy in these United States or is that a pipe dream? This is not the America I grew up in and I and shocked and greatly saddened by the silence which is deafening. We need to take back our country and we need to do it NOW.

I posted this on another thread but thought it was relevant to this one also.

It’s true, we can sit out here and parse Karl’s words and even take Rose to task. We can do all these things and play Karl’s game again or we can mature as citizens and understand deeply this has been Karl’s only strength from the beginning. He’s not a genius or even brilliant he understands situational (compromised) ethics and the role it plays in the theater of critically divided man and the exploitable lack of self worth, postmodern thought has brought us to.

Karl Rove is flat out a liar. A thorough study of the recent records illustrates that, but he is afloat in a sea of lies. Our society our culture is awash in lies. We act as if the remedy is to engage these theatrics in some kind of “meaningful” dialogue, to as we say, “expose” the truth. Giving the shadow some kind of realness. This is how we give over our power of critical thinking to this pretender and agree to, to paraphrase Plato, argue with the shadows. This is what Karl knows and uses and yes he is dangerous…until we see that there is nothing in his statements or future strategy but distortion and illusion and bereft of any true ethic, or morality for that matter.
Charlie Rose is inconsequential to the equation. That’s why he would like you to continue to engage him, (Karl, that is) on that level - in that mind set. Not for truth. That’s why Newsweek hired him, they’re banking on the conflicted nature of the postmodern gestalt. It’s not that Karl is irrelevant, he wants you to stay involved in act 1, but we must recognize we have moved on to act 2. To a large extent people have come awake and are demanding a sea change in what it means to be governed. We must stay focused.

We must continue to determine the course of the dialogue from here on out. Not Karl.

Stop this train. I want to get off.

How many of the bottom 23%ers do you think will swallow Rove's words wholesale and incorporate them into their permanent memory? I'll bet most. I've even heard some Bush worshippers say that King George didn't start this war. Clinton did. How? By ignoring Saddam Hussein's evil machinations. Even though our military enforced sanctions, inspections, weapons confiscation and destruction, and a slow burning war to maintain control of the Northern and Southern no-fly zones over Iraq, all throughout Clinton's two terms. None of this means anything in the blinding light of the new history of the war, as told by Rush Limbo, Bill O'Reilly, and now Karl Rove.
