Arianna Discusses Job Crisis On Piers Morgan Tonight (VIDEO)

Posted: 08/30/11 10:08 PM ET

Arianna discussed the issues surrounding job growth in America on Tuesday's Piers Morgan Tonight.

"For many, many years now we've seen the lives of middle class being much more precarious," she said. "The financial crisis since 2008... we've not been able to recover."

She also bemoaned the lack of urgency about the jobs crisis.

Comparing Hurricane Irene to jobs she said, "If we had Hurricane Jobs, if we had recognition that the job crisis has brought enormous devastation in the lives of millions, and we need to come together collectively - in our neighborhoods, in our communities, at the local, state and federal level - and really solve it, everything would be transformed."

So much talk about jobs when no one counts job and labor sources.
Job sources come from the business and financial models which adapt to our circumstances such as globalization, and the recession. It produces a finite number of jobs, many of which are shipped overseas with the factories in order for manufacturers to extract as much as possible from globalization.
Labor sources come from our birth rate and legal and illegal immigration
We need to balance the two. It will take many trillions of dollars, which we don't have, to create long lasting jobs for all, but we could do a lot of balancing by curtailing immigration until we have escaped recession.

Since trade was liberlalized with the totalitarian Chinese, median income has declined and manufacturing employment (highly productive jobs with significant economic multipliers) is down 30%.

Free trade with totalitarins is not free. It's a race to the bottom.

Deep underlying distrust. class wariness, and loss of faith in the unity of American ideals and goals has undermined the potential for Americans to rally to a common cause.

In this sense, the Republican propaganda machine has achieved its objective to divide the country in order to conquer.

We need people to believe that fairness and opportunity continue to be the ultimate priorities or our society. Without that, only the most dire consequences, consequences that force equality by reducing all to the least common denominator will succeed in creating the empathy required for national success.

"has undermined the potential for Americans to rally to a common cause"

America has N3V3R rallied to a "common cause", with the exception of the most inspirational and most traumatic events, and then only temporarily. The Civil War and WWII, space program triumphs and tragedies, attacks on our homeland (PH & 9/11). On a handful of days a year we wave the American flag, the rest of the year we are a federation of states and local communities. Americans care more about their neighbors, with whom they may disagree politically, than they do about like-minded individuals on the other side of the country.

The wise leader understands what her organization is capable of, and adopts appropriate goals and strategies. Our federal government, led toward Progressives policies, has ignored that for 45 years. We are where we are, because we FORGOT who we are.

Jobs crisis and Hurricane Irene - great comparison. While pundits and politicians banter and bloviate about why it all happened, who’s to blame and what should be done in response, America continues its economic, political and attitudinal decline while the real historical driver of America’s economic engine – human capital – remains substantially under-leveraged.

So why is Obama waiting until after Labor Day for his jobs speech? Here's what the American people need to hear now about jobs and unemployment: http://resume-not-required.com/?p=694

There are five jobs available from my previous corporate overlords. Every couple of weeks they change the "date posted". A few of these jobs have been around for over 6 months.

What is the purpose of this little white lie? It's like our own CVs. Any gap of unemployment needs to be explained. There are tons of jobs that have been approved for by upper management but the people who have to fill the jobs are lazy. Every couple of weeks the HR gal changes the posting date and goes back to the computer and shops for shoes online.

Corporations are ran by people. People mostly care about things that effect them. That means the cleaning staff has a nightly job to do. The doughnut makers have a job to do. The scientist, engineer, teacher, laborer, and new college grad have to stay home and think up clever ways to get the HR gal to notice your resume. I suggest disguising it as an ad for Macys Labor Day Shoe Sale.

By the looks of other comments below, alot of people share many same and great ideas. If we come together we can solve unemployment in America and we must address these two main issues.

1. We have to create a demand for products and services for American companies.
Companies cannot hire if they don't have the business. So we promote them within our communities.
2. We have to find a way to get people involved in that process so they can earn money.
So we offer this solution.

I created Onelinkvideo.com so any person in the US who is unemployed, downsized, college students, parents of college students, and families facing foreclosure can earn money.

The site offers a product and a service. We help families keep their kids safe through the use of our wristbands and we help promote local business through our video ads. Anyone can sign up for free and join us. The amount of money you make is completely up to you.

I firmly believe that i have create a site that gives people an opportunity and that is all that we are looking for. We are simply asking for the opportunity to earn our living and when we stop relying on our government to help us, we will come together and help ourselves. Please share this story.

Thank you and God Bless America.

The real issue is that our "leaders" are only exposed to statistics, not the actual people who have been devastated by this crisis. It's easy for the POTUS to do a flyover and see the damage done by the hurricane for himself; but learning about personal devastation as a result of long-term joblessness would require on the ground, face to face interaction.

It needs to happen, but sadly, I doubt it will. Quite honestly, this is exactly the kind of constituent interaction our local reps in Congress should be focusing on and bringing the message to Washington. But as usual, they appear to be more concerned about 2010 election triangulation than dealing with the crisis at hand.

on the Republican side we here the same rubbish, reduce taxes and allow small business to hire, on the left, we here that we should spend more. I never hear anyone talking about what really creates jobs are demand for products and service. Folks, we can talk all we want, but until America decide to invest into education, product development, science and technology, our young people, for get it...you can cut taxes all you want, spend all you want on the wrong things, it will not amount to much. Remember the Clinton days, we creating jobs, not because of tax cuts and more spending, but because there demand for company products and services.

Too few dollars chasing too many products. American marketing has bled consumer markets through psychological warfare that uses hype, and product bubbles to add huge markups and siphon loose change even before it is earned. Our demand economy is in a shambles because it itself was a bubble that has broken. We buy much more out of desire, avarice, and status than out of need. That is not a sustainable model.

Let's get back to basics!

Well, if you look at what the house passed, and what common sense economists are saying, this we would be much better off overall today if republicans had not blocked the legilstation that woulld bring us out of this mess. Republican policy craeted this mess, and republicans are doing everything they can to make it worse.

The "Next Level" that America will need to achieve and may never be fortunate enough to reach, sadly, is to make any form of contribution to any political leader, or party or campaign absolutely illegal.

The fact that our government could be bought was never, ever in the formulation of this country or its laws, but it has taken root and infected everything our government is about in a most terminal, unstoppable manner.

This is the center of the storm that's destroying our nation. The very factor that's strangling our economy, our middle class, making us poor and devastating our future, making what was our democracy a long forgotten dream.
11:26 AM on 08/31/2011
Well said! All the other issues are would resolve themselves if we had a Congress that worked for 'the people' instead of spending 1/2 of their life in office soliciting more donations.

The rulling by the Republican controlled Supreme court regarding the Citizen's United Ruling was the nail in the coffin for our country. The Supreme court should have been ruled unconstitutional since it makes a mockery of our democracy. Why isn't there a class action lawsuit in the United States where the citizens vs. the Supreme Court? Is there not one lawyer or champion of the people who can challenge this farce of a ruling?

There wont be any new jobs created until Obama looses his. The man has cast a depressing mood over this country by his opposition to the private business sector. and his encouraging class warfare. Who would be crazy enough start a business or take on the burden of hiring new employees with Obama in the Oval 0ffice. Shoving Obamacare down the throats of the American voters was the a mistake. Now his base is realizing that his misguided policies are hurting them as well their political opponents. The strength and attraction of America was confidence in the rule of law and freedom from excessive government control over business. Now all that has been lost and investors are staying away. Better to invest in Canada, Brazill or Australia. Obama's governing by executive orders which are done in secret and unannounced will be the ruination of us all. The man is unfit to be POTUS.

It is better to invest in Canada of Australia because they are more advanced economies with health care plans in place for decades. Stop making excuses for the rugged, tough never say die spirit of Americans. Scared to create jobs because of Obama? Taxes? Grow up and get some balls. What would you have said during world war II. Oh Germans and Japanese are soooo tough we can never win that war. No they rose to the challenge and made America great. That is what needs to happen grow some balls stop whining. Let the bankers, fail tax those that need to pay their fair share. Tax imports from Communist China and bring jobs back to America. End the phony wars.

I agree, but we need a LEADER with a VOICE. We don't have that in Obama who always appears to be somehow detached from it all. Clinton, (and I'm not a fan) at least empathized with average Americans in a way Obama doesn't seem to have any interest in doing. We used to joke about Clinton's 'I feel your pain' approach, but the guy did reach down and picked up a lot of people that experienced hard times. Obama relies too much on a well delivered speech, and then when its over, one realizes that was the whole deal. Further action appeared not to matter. Its easy to be critical, but once a person becomes president our political system DEMANDS leadership. Its not a ceramonial position in our form of government. Obama hasn't delivered. Oh sure he doesn't have a majority in Congress any more, but remember, he LOST that majority by his detachment from involvement until it was too late.

A nations wealth is what comes out of the ground and surrounding waters. Prosperity is what the nation does with its wealth. Look at Canada, Brazil and Austrailia. China and India have tremendous work forces. Their wealth comes from the ammount of money America spends on their goods and services. Canada and Austrailia can afford universal healthcare 1) They capitalize on their natural resources 2) They have closed borders with no immigration problems.
3) They have little unemp[oyment. 4) Their populations are accustomed to long waits for treatment.
If healthcare is so important why arent we creating more doctors, nurses and hospitals? Would you spend years of your life in hard study, costing hundreds of thousands of dollars, work long hours, assume great responsibility, only to be sued for millions by some two bit lawyer representing an illegal alien
for a treaetment that was paid by Medicaid for a miniscule fee? .

We need to be honest. Most jobs in corporate America suck. I know of a CEO who went through 8 assistants in 3 months before he found one that could tolerate him. That assistant was put in charge of the receptionist. The assistant would use a stop watch to time the receptionist when she used the restroom.

People with jobs in corporate America are lazy and they are mean. They need to do their meaningless jobs, pay their taxes and stop complaining about the unemployed. The reason we have all of this unemployment is because over payed corporate types aren't productive.
