I found the entire session at http://web20summit.blip.tv/file/1450647/
and listened without the visuals. Very informative. Newsom I especially found illuminating.
Thanks a lot.
Hmm.. The best 26:55 min. I have spent watching any thing lately! Where is part 2?
And you, My Lady Arianna are an illuminating light in the darkness.
The way you articulate your thoughts and say facts is exceptional in the U.S. Media as it is most important for the humanization and emancipation of the U.S.
I did not come not to notice the "silence" from everyone to your statement of the lying Media.
How fascinating that even the American intellectual left do not dare to talk out publicly about Lies in the News Media, Taxing the Churches or sanctioning Israel if necessary. All you will ever receive is ¦. silence.
Try that out sometimes on e.g. "Larry King", Arianna.
Best Regards!

Excellent! Beyond the astute commentary on how the media has evolved, Joe Trippi's MyWhiteHouse.gov concept is probably one that is in it's infancy now already, but should clearly be taken seriously by the incoming administration, and they should, in my mind, borrow the architecture from the HP for such a breathtakingly potential bridge between the governing and the governed. Bravo all.
Great discussion, and the event production side of me has to say something about the cosmetics of this: Awful sofas/chairs, it's uncomfortable for me to watch.
yeah, it looked like Web 2.0 at Comvention 1.0... the state of the art doesn't come through.
Great discussion ... Arianna's point that politicians nolonger have the ability to lie and get away with it will change politics. Perhaps it will lead to authenticity in candidates as Joe Trippi says ... perhaps it will lead to 24/7 reality show for politicians as Gavin says ... but no doubt politicians will understand that politics as usual has changed.
We're out here ... and we're watching
Thank you so much. That was so smart! More please. Where is the rest?
Gavin, it's not that the politicians have to be always "on", because there is no more "on" or "off" any more. You either are one way or you are some other way, and everyone is going to know that. You can't be both. You can't be one way when the cameras are rolling and another way when they're not. The real you is going to come out at some point.
So it's better for a politician to be real, be authentic. It's can't be an act anymore. Because the people will find out who the real you is. Try and fool them, and you'll be caught and quickly voted out of office.
Unfortunately Newsom's authenticity and passion helped his opponents coalesce for the awful prop 8. You can tell he was still smarting from the speech he made about gay marriage and how he felt about it. But I think in the long term he and everyone else will realize that kind of passion is what people want in their politicians. Having lived in SF under his first administration he is quick on his feet and will come through this defeat with an ultimate victory because he was right in that passion.
Excellent discussion. I too can't wait to see the 2nd part. One of the most interesting aspects of the campaigns was the speed with which information was produced whether it came from msm, or sites such as HP. Back when Kennedy was President, the news was seen on TV in the evenings - more often than naught, it was the radio. As an adult over the last 30 years there was news morning, noon and evening and then again before going to bed, but it was redundant and sparsed, it was based upon the judgement of the executive from stations and even the journalists.
Now, at 50, I get to decide what's important from the vast wealth of news and blogs out there. Even over the last few years, my habits have changed dramatically - I might check websites for "news" once a day - locally and nationally and now, especially, throughout the election I check several times a day, I use rss feeds and twitter. News I can find at my convenience.
I love the internet and it will only get better.

These are illuminating perspectives. I think all bloggers should watch this - but where's Part 2 to this video? I can't find it.
Yeah, the video at the Web 2.0 Summit site is even shorter (22 minutes). I guess you had to be there.
