Arianna Discusses Sarah Palin's Stunning Hypocrisy (VIDEO)

What's Your Reaction:

Arianna appeared on "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" Friday and explained that Sarah Palin's refusal to call out Rush Limbaugh for his use of the word "retard" proves that she is afraid that offending the radio host and arbiter of the conservative movement could hurt her image.

Earlier this week, Palin called for Rahm Emanuel to be fired after he used the same word.

Arianna argued that Palin's decision to go after Emanuel, but not Limbaugh is all part of Palin's "cost-benefit analysis" operating procedure:

Arianna: Everything with her seems to be about this cost-benefit analysis, you know what is in her best interests as opposed to anything else. And that goes directly against the brand that she tried to build about her being authentic, being about her core values, keeping her baby eventhough it was a down syndrome baby. All these things... are really exposed here as nothing but a veneer. The hypocrisy is really stunning

Aren't we all a little bit envious of Palin's position. Yeah, she is likely a phony, and if not, I almost feel sorry for her. She has been given the financial gift of celebrity, particularly political celebrity. She doesn't have to churn out new pop songs or movies. All she needs to do is keep playing to the sometimes vague political whims and normally apathetic middle America, using her status as a temporary spokesperson for the radical and loud right wing to make it into the news stories, where she appears as a modern Joan of Arc.

Oh Please! Palin can run.. but if she wins the GOP nomination I will loose all hope and faith in the American political system. From the perspective of an independant, she is grotesquely mocking American politics. The fact that she gets on her soap box and mocks the President is such a turn off. If she had any common sense, she would stop throwing mud at the White House and start finding some relevancy in what she is talking about. If her claims about health care were not so obsurd, if she actually had a valid opinion on campaign finance reform or Wall St., she may actually get the attention of the people that she is really trying to reach. Ok. So she wants to be a rebel, maybe she should have stayed the governor of Alaska and had some influence on the congressional and house representatives and the voters in Alaska. I would have far more respect for her if she had just finished out her term. She makes no sense and carries on about things that really have no current political relevancy.

I have read all 18 pages and it's amazing all the people who are angry and stating as facts things that are not true. I read many that appeared to be racist calling other people racist's.

A lot of wasted time and energy on things that are mostly not important.

Listen to what other people have to say, evaluate it and let it go. Calling names does not accomplish anything.

Sarah's a dim bulb, but she's not that dim. She knows that if she denounces Limbaugh for his comments, then all Rush has to do is get on his bully pulpit and turn his nation of dittoheads against Palin. And if that happens, Palin knows her chances of being the GOP candidate for the Presidency in 2012 is slim and none.
02:27 PM on 02/08/2010
Sarah won't call out Rush Limbaugh and got upset about Greg Sargent's Plumline post because every Republican that has called-out Limbaugh has had to publicly apologize shortly afterward. And Limbaugh's use of "retarded" was more egregrious than Rahm Emanuel's: Emanuel seems to have called a political strategy -- not people -- "retarded."

This blog has a stunning masthead picture of Sarah Palin's hypocrisy. It is a picture of the tour bus -- whoops! -- airport limo pulling up to the stairs of her tour jet. Taken at the airport in Billings, Montana:

Out of the mouths of babes...

A sardonic old european professor once said "to call what Reagan does "lying" is like calling the babbling of an idiot "lying". To lie requires a certain -sophistication. One must understand the concept of *truth*."

Reagan had no conception of truth. He told people he was a war veteran when he'd never been in the military. But he wasn't lying. See, he'd played a bomber crewman in a movie , and it was all the same to him. Hitler and his pals had the same sort of problem. They somehow convinced themselves they were "Aryan supermen" and that all the world's problems were the fault of Herr Zimmer the Jewish violin-maker and Herr Fliescher the Jewish deli-owner. Mussolini, ditto. His thing was , we're gonna re-create the roman empire, we are , we are.. And the KKK, a punch of poor white trash the rich white men wouldn't give the time of day to, telling themselves they were the White Knights of the Invisible Empire.

Maybe living in a fantasy world is an occupational hazard for stupid right-wing people. I wish they'd go play Second Life or something and leave the rest of us alone.

Appearantly this kni dof self-aggrandising myth-making is

Actually, Reagan did serve--not overseas, in combat, but stateside. He was a second Lt and among other things, produced training films. So technically ...

Nicely said. And totally true.

I thin Arianna is giving Palin too much credit. palin is not capable of thinking that far ahead. She doesn't realize what Limbaugh can do to her 'brand.' Palin is simply a one-sided hypocrite, who hates all things and persons Democrat.

I'm sorry, but if Sarah Palin is the candidate for president three years from now, It is going to make my life a whole hell of a lot easier. If she wins it would make my life a dream. As a blogger, I will never again have to touch my computer keyboard. These things will write themselves.

I know this sounds exceedingly selfish on my part and I am ashamed to say it in so public a forum. I hope she never goes away. For the self-described political satirist, she is the gift that keeps giving and giving and giving....

Dear Tom,
I agree with your logic! The only thing is this- There won't be a United States of America if she is elected. The people she attracts are ignoramouses ! She doesn't even know where or what the EU is. The cut and run governor/president hasn't aclue what Barack Obama has had to put up with- the destruction of this country by republicans. Her only concern is what to wear that day and what to write in the palm of herhand! Allyson
02:48 PM on 02/08/2010
I agree with you that there won't be a United States of America if she is elected but for different reasons. This woman believes she is the second coming of the biblical Esther (read some of Max Blumenthal's pieces about her). She is egotistical enough to want to be the leader of the country when "the end times" occur, so hello little red button to deploy those darn nuclear weapons. Yes, I know this sounds paranoid, but stop and think for a minute about the ridiculous paranoid theories that have come from the likes of Palin and Bachmann since Obama was elected. She seems to me to believe in just this type of craziness.
06:52 PM on 02/08/2010
All I can say is I HOPE Sarah Palin runs... maybe as the Tea Party candidate. I can see her now, with notes at the debates running all the way up her arms. God willing, she'll get in there and expose the split in the Republican party... working as a magnet for all the nut-jobs while, in the end, nauseating the "just right wing"... it may be the single best way to make sure we get the time we apparently need to get something done in D.C.
11:08 AM on 02/08/2010
java drinker claims to have voted for Obama, but now is disappointed, says Obama promised this and that and hasn't delivered. Bush and company promised the Iraq war would pay for itself. Javadrinker needs a reality check.

In the age of the 24/7 news cycle, we will have every stupid thing this woman says or does crammed down our throats. I am old enough to remember when you got your news in the daily (not minute-by-minute) newspaper and the evening newscast. There was not enough time or space to report all the minutia that get reported now. I admit, too, that I am an Internet news junkie. I just have to learn when to ignore or disregard what annoys me.

On the other hand, we also get immediate news and updates when something of real relevance has happened . . . so I guess that is the price we must pay: Sarah opening her maw again and embarrassing herself, Limbaugh opening his maw again and embarrassing himself, and John McCain opening his maw again and embarrassing himself and the Senate. Sigh.

Oops! This was meant as a reply to a post somewhere on this thread about the press giving so much play to Sarah Palin. Hit the wrong button! Sorry :).

I'm convinced that the main reason she is on TV and at the podium so much giving speeches is that she is practicing for the great debates of 2012. Yes. It will be a bloggers dream come true and the TV stations will be pulling in big bucks, BUT, let US not get pulled into the Palin dream....she has a dream - well, she can wake up now after her TEA BAGGING PARTY SPEECH and her having to read her left palm for some reason or another. What does she have a crystal ball in that hand with all the answers?

Sarah Palin...clueless...Tea Baggers...clueless...GOP...clueless (they just want their power back). It's all about the party, not the people. Just love watching conservatives splintering into multiple groups.
03:08 PM on 02/07/2010
You seem to be saying that it's great to see the Republicans as disorganized as the Democrats have long had a reputation for being. Even now, the Democrats don't disappoint, even when they control both Houses and the Executive branch. But, they're the Party of the People? They're so rattled about the upcoming 2010 mid-term elections and the possibility of losing more of their majorities (ie., losing the power you imply they could care less about) precisely because Obama and gang are perceived as NOT having listened to the people, and in fact have run farther left than most in a center-right country can stomach.
To be fair, neither party deserves any accolades, the polls being clear on that.

Neither party may deserve accolades at this point in time, but the people know mal intentions when they see them. Sarah Palin is as self centered as the rest of the Tea Baggers.....they care for no one but their own self rightous causes and every night I pray to a God ( remember the one that loves everyone, not just GOP Christian zealots) that people will wake up and care about what matters.

Actually I am a Republican and Palin absolutely embarrasses me. She is so ditsy and silly. Plus her lack of calling Limbaugh our about his disgusting reference to retarded folks surely shows off her double standard. I had a retarded adopted daughter. I would never sit still for Limbaugh's disgusting reference to retarded folks. The most dishonest thing about Palin though, is that she is selective with her outrage. I found Limbaugh's comments totally disgusting because he used "retarded" in such a political way. Amazing that this comment did not invoke total disavowal from Palin. Therefore one can only believe her outrage is purely political and has nothing to do with her standards of acceptable speech about retarded folks. She is just another political hack with wavering values in her heart. She certainly does NOT represent this Republican.

Problem is that the Republicans seem to be winning back many key positions whether in Congress or in different states at the governor's level.

Sarah Palin put together the worse speech I ever heard. It was a lot of rambling about isolated points . She never put anything together. She was tying to get the crowd worked up Some people there were not happy with her speech , you could see it in their faces. Sarah would never survived a pri, mary. She is just a passing money hungry Republican. Why all of the fuss, Obama has three years to bring this thing together and he will. He is in the first quarter of the game. The fear is that if he can stay on course he will be a force to deal with. That's saying a lot considering what he has already done. He has done more than the Bushes, Reagon and the lot. He is extremely bright ask the Republicans congressional leaders. The republican senator bowed out quickly to televised Q/A sessions. If he is a as bad as they say he is let's get iot on. !40 against one and the one won!!!!
He won because he spoke truth.

You hit it right on the head. Unfortunately competing interests with media connections and outlets want Mr. Obama to fail. I am not trying to rush to do anything. That is what got us in this mess in the first place. President Obama makes me proud. He keeps his head above the fray and when he spanked the GOP in their own house it still makes me smile.
03:29 PM on 02/07/2010
Some commenter today or yesterday said something that rang true with me regarding the Republican meeting, which was that Obama basically put on a show of bi-partisanship (or of at least reaching out his hand) but at the same time chastised the Republicans for basically not being Democrats, which provides a strong hint that as much as the Republicans seem intractable in their views, Obama is equally entrenched in his own. He’s right. They are wrong. “We won.” “You lost.”
Nothing’s changed in Obama’s brain, and despite a good portion of the country saying “Slow down, buddy, you’re moving too fast… time to come back to the center,” Obama isn’t listening and may not plan to, even as his Democrats vigorously (and openly) weigh the ROI of clinging to his coattails.
We’ll see.

Sarah warns republicans of primary challenges yet is committed to campaigning for senator republican John McCain? She's telling the teabaggers only what they want to hear nothing more. All bumper sticker NO car indeed.
11:00 AM on 02/08/2010
Palin praised Scott Brown (pro choice) in the same speech she said the tea party needs to support only true conservatives. What a crock.
12:47 PM on 02/08/2010
She called Scott Brown "Just a man with a "Truck" and a man "who loves his country"???? I think he is more than that AND if I were Scott Brown, "I" would be asking for an apology from Sarah Palin...NOW!!!!!!! No wonder he didn't want her helping him to get elected and then when asked what he thought about her calling him to congratulate him, Scott Brown said she never called him and then he recalled that she did call him...so much for Palin making a lasting memory with Scott Brown. I bet Saturday night calling him "Just a Man with a TRUCK"...made a different impression on him...I know it gave me food for fodder....LOL

What a waste of time we spend on Palin. I know she makes news for all the media, BUT can't we have a NO PALIN MONTH - TIME OUT?????
