Thank you, thank you Arianna for everything you are doing for America and progressive thinking in this country. The Huffington Post has been changing the political discourse in America and have caused the mainstream media to stand up and pay attention. Americans are increasingly turning to new media like HuffPost because we are tired of the corporate owned mainstream media that have reduced us to nothing but passive consumers and have watered down the news to fit their agenda. This site has become a must read for me, I simply can't do without it. I believe it will continue to grow exponentially over the upcoming years. Continue to set the trend Ms. Huffington, we love you.
It is really a treat to see the behind-the-scenes of this website. Ms. Huffington, you came off very well. I feel honored to be able to participate in all the wonderful issues that get tossed around like mad everyday here. It's a wonderful whirlwind that I spend too much time surfing, but don't mind me. Please do keep it up.
Why would anyone want to be a conservative? Sounds pretty anal to me. LIBERAL is the way!
Conservative
1. disposed to preserve existing conditions, institutions, etc., or to restore traditional ones, and to limit change.
2. cautiously moderate or purposefully low: a conservative estimate.
3. traditional in style or manner; avoiding novelty or showiness: conservative suit.
4. (often initial capital letter) of or pertaining to the Conservative party.
5. (initial capital letter) of, pertaining to, or characteristic of Conservative Jews or Conservative Judaism.
6. having the power or tendency to conserve; preservative.
LIBERAL
1. favorable to progress or reform, as in political or religious affairs.
2. (often initial capital letter) noting or pertaining to a political party advocating measures of progressive political reform.
3. of, pertaining to, based on, or advocating liberalism.
4. favorable to or in accord with concepts of maximum individual freedom possible, esp. as guaranteed by law and secured by governmental protection of civil liberties.
5. favoring or permitting freedom of action, esp. with respect to matters of personal belief or expression: a liberal policy toward dissident artists and writers.
6. of or pertaining to representational forms of government rather than aristocracies and monarchies.
7. free from prejudice or bigotry; tolerant: a liberal attitude toward foreigners.
8. open-minded or tolerant, esp. free of or not bound by traditional or conventional ideas, values, etc.
9. characterized by generosity and willingness to give in large amounts: a liberal donor.
Liberalism will always conquer conservatism. There is hardly anything in this world that a man values more than his liberty. Conservatives want to limit our liberties and tell us how to live our lives. They want to push religion down our throats, prevent our women from making their own reproductive choices, tell us who we can and can not marry. They wan to divide the us and make one segment of the population feel more important than the other. In other words, if you are not a straight white male Christian you are less than worthy and can't be considered a 'real' American. Liberals on the other hand believe in the fundamental American values of liberty, equality and freedom for all. We believe that every American is as important as the other and should have the freedom to lead the happiest lives possible. The conservative philosophy is grounded on hatred and fear but liberalism has its roots in love and justice.
I look forward to seeing the sports (and, I suppose, fashion) coverage on HuffPo. I'm not sure yet what to make of the "Green" coverage - it seems a bit of a narrow area to discretely focus on - kind of like focusing on say "Health" as a discrete topic. But all in all, I like the expanded coverage. I think International coverage would be a nice add-on provided sufficient resources could be thrown at it.
I admire your desire to improve our national conversation, but if I could just offer one constructive criticism: the discussion software on HuffPost does not lend itself to dialog among users. It is difficult to make and keep track of threads in a discussion over a new posted item. I would therefore request that HuffPost take steps to modify its discussion system so that it is friendly to a user community. Part of what keeps users coming back to sites like this is the ability to effectively communicate with other users.
This is nice and nobody deserves accolades for her work more than Arianna.
However. this video segment shows how hard it must be to cover a blog via TV. Of course, they had to punt and almost exclusively cover the personality instead of the business or the actual workings of the site.
There's a story here most people who get their business news from print or TV just don't understand. That story would be about the real-time interaction of a blog-based website and the social collaborative nature of it. I guess that would make for boring TV, huh?
But still, congratulations Arianna. We love you, darling.
I remember when HuffPo came online. What a breath of fresh air in the sea of rightwing bullshit media. It was also theraputic to have a place to voice my pain and depression after the 2004 election and to realize I wasn't the only one who felt as I did.
I first came here just a few months after it first started too. I really admired her writings and books, and the blog here was great, until about a year or so ago when she started going national enquire style and censoring the comments. Which really ticked me off as she is vocal about free speech , but then practices censorship. It makes no sense.
Arianna's thought process is that civil discourse is being prevented in this country by "toxic dialog". So the goal here at HuffPo is to purge said toxic dialog. A noble thought but wrongheadedness worthy of Lenin. HuffPo was particularly stung by criticism from O'Reilly due to comments posted here and fell right into his trap. Sort of like how we were attacked for our freedoms by Bin Laden and instead of defiance our response was to curtail them. This is truly how the right have taken over.
To me, I would have been more comfortable had Arianna said she wants to give people the *opportunity* to change the dialog in this country. God knows no ones hates the current discourse more than I do. It's completely despicable. But I believe that discourse can only change as people take responsiblity. Our words are merely weathervanes to the winds of our hearts. No point changing the direction of the weathervane when the wind still blows the same.
Free speech all the way - and is the only way. Anything else is just dishonesty.
Where would we have been without HuffPo these past few years?
How many important news stories would have never come to light?
Besides. It has always been fun to read and laugh at some of the funny comments as well as gang up on trolls!!
Very nice interview; such a welcome change from the usual garbage that comes out about Arianna. I hope this brings more people into the world of HuffPo-although it is a double-edged sword to have to share it with strangers...
Keep up the wonderful work. I am a writer, and I have been looking for work since last year. Need any help?

Did they do a segment on all the censorship of conservative views?
My guess would be no.

The only problem is that liberalism always generates the exact opposite of it's stated intent.

I have found the liberals to be just as closed minded and set in their ways as the conservatives. Both groups, IMO, should be avoided at all costs.
Any shots of Rachel Sklar?

Although not perfect, its the best discussion board since Yahoo dumped their "posting" mechanism.
Thanks Huffington, for giving us frustrated bloggers a place to come put down our thoughts.

i see she has good taste - st. john and jimmy choo!
lookin' fabulous, arianna!
Right. What people WEAR is sooo important.
I'm sure Dick Cheney and GWB have the finest suits. They may be war criminals, but they're well dressed.
Why don't you grow up and judge what is important. It ain't designer labels.

Nice segment, Ariana! How does it feel to be called an "ICON"?
A lot of people dislike Arriana, I don't get it. Huffpost is my most visited site. Thanks for everything
Good stuff...can I get a job?
