HuffPost Editor Roy Sekoff On The Far Right's Political Porn (VIDEO)

HuffPost Editor Roy Sekoff was a guest on MSNBC's The Ed Show tonight to discuss the latest outrage from the far right - an attempt to encourage people to battle against health care reform by burning Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi in effigy, as well as holding a contest - with prizes! -- to see who can create the 'best' "Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi burn in hell" video.

Sekoff denounced the effort as "political pornography" and "straight out of the Glenn Beck school of hate-filled buffoonery." He also noted that it's tempting to dismiss such outrages as irrelevant bleating by the lunatic fringe, "but then you think of George Tiller. You think of the doctor who was shot down in cold blood by someone who was following the likes of anti-abortion zealot Randall Terry. And that's when it gets really scary."

Don't fear these stunts by those becoming aware of our efforts. These are isolated incidents & represent a small minority of those that have reached a breaking point. We shall be deep into the ultimate restructuring of the country before their forces multiply into a viable threat against our vision of control.

Don't you just love how the same people calling for government to stay out of their lives are the very ones who want to tell women what they can/can't do with their own bodies? They make me sick!!!!

To all these wing-nuts who encourage violence (even if it's only symbolic) against anyone, I ask:

What about things, you know, they rhyme with "en ommandments"? And there's that one that rhymes with "ou alt ot ill"?

I don't know. What chapter in Atlas Shrugged is that found in? You have to reference the exact page of their bible for them to be able to figure out what you mean.

When your argument is weak turn to violence to get your way. Same as it ever was...

They seem to forget their religion when it comes to things they don't like.

The hypocrisy is astounding, they claim to be the party of "Faith" and this is their faith??

Their leadership should speak out against the violent content and rhetoric but if they see a political advantage they sit quiet and do nothing.

The "party of no" thinks they can just keep saying no to everything, ignoring the reality without taking any action and think in the future it will still serve them well but I don't see it that way.

Eventually people will tire of their inaction and even more damage to their image will happen as a result.

I really don't see a positive political outcome for the right unless they return to a more inclusive mind set and speak out about the tactics of their party and affiliates.

That "right-wing buffoonery" and the vermin drawn to it and influenced by it is just another portent of the forthcoming revolution.

Huh?

Revolution of the ignorant?

Been there done that. See: November 2000- January 2009.

This is how unhinged the wingnuts have become. They lose one presidential election and now they have to talk about "revolutions" and "coups".

Do you people understand that democracy means sometimes, your side loses?

The far right is no longer trying even to disguise their incitement to violence. They can not get their way through argumentation or through fearmongering, so they are resorting to the incitement of violence. Of course, when someone commits another violent act, like the person who shot up the Holocaust Museum, the far right will say they were taken out of context. What context explains lunacy?

It's very worrisome. I hope this doesn't end in tragedy, but unless someone brings some sanity back into the right, that's exactly where this is headed.

I love what they said about Nancy Pelosi encouraging acts of violence by bringing up a sad story, yet they respond with silence about this? There are no words which express my disgust.

This is what the Republican party has come to sybolize. No real discussion or suggestions for bettering the nation. Just commentary that they don't like Obama and want change. Change to where? Another 8 years of Bushism. This is not a real party for bettering the nation. Just a group of undereducated, under intelligent group of idiots masquerading as concerned citizens. Palin's "real Americans". Well, I too want my country back. One that works for its people and not special interests. One where intelligence can rule and persuade people that our nation can be better by moving forward. I don't want for the nation to become like MS/LA/AL/OK, etc. I want a better nation.

I share at least some of Mr. Sekoff's concern.
However, and I am not familiar enough with Mr. Sekoff's past to know this, I will put much more stock in what he says if he has a history of condemning such behavior no matter what end of the political spectrum it comes from.
I also don't think it futhers Mr. Sekoff's opinion to resort to name calling.
I think when either side goes the name calling route, it detracts from the seriousness of their message.

I agree. The Left is as bad as the Right when it comes to name calling. I wonder has it EVER OCCURED to the Left that most people KNOW HOW this all appears. Must the Left continue to lower themselves to the level of those whom they condemn....IT'S ALL RELATIVE WHEN YOU'RE SERVING UP THE SAME BS....And the Left's continued obession with Sarah Palin....DITTO on that one.

With you on the name calling thing. But as far as Sarah Palin is concerned, nobody is at all obsessed with her, or Michelle from Minnesota, or Glenn Beck or certain Senators/Congressmen either. If they would stop doing and saying stupid things, nobody would feel compelled to ever mention them again. But you can't really let stupid slide; pretty soon people start to believe it.

Name calling is a far cry from encouraging supporters and followers to burn people in effigy. You don't think that is disturbing? You think all the sane people should just hush up and not discuss it and it will magically go away? As long as the far right pursues a course of inciting its followers to violent acts or the 'imitation' of violent acts, I cannot help but think that all OTHER citizens are right to talk about it.

Maybe there is, maybe there isn't. Only one way to find out; for your sake, I hope it's not true!!! But there have been burning hells before, why not again? (Mt. Vasuvius, for instance)

They certainly don't behave as if they believe in a hell. They worship at the altar of Ayn Rand, fight desperately against everything Jesus said in the Bible, and tear down any good works.

If they believe there's a hell, their ideology is just trying to score them a higher place in the food chain there.

What the religious right should do is replace the cross with the symbol of what they actually do worship: A dollar sign.
