HuffPost Editor Roy Sekoff appeared on the Joy Behar Show tonight to discuss the ideal replacement for outgoing White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, as well as the swearing in of the new Congress.

Given new Speaker of the House John Boehner's propensity for crying at almost any significant occasion, Sekoff was surprised that he didn't break down even further than he did, considering he as "valedictorian at the Glenn Beck school of public weeping."

He also pointed out that Pelosi and Boehner had a little Sonny and Cher thing going on when she handed him an oversize gavel and started joking about its size.

The significance of Gibbs leaving, Sekoff believes, is that it shows Obama and his team are getting very serious about gearing up for his re-election campaign: "Let's take the battle-hardened pros and have them focus on the campaign."

This Roy Sekoff is one smart dude. I liked the way he illustrated Boehner's cheap theatrics about the size of the gavel.

Gibb's best replacement? Lawrence Odonnell

No. I do not want Mr. O'Donnell constrained by politics and Obama and forced to spin the truth. He is much more valuable where he is.

Gibb's perfect replacement? Rachel Maddow.

A nice thought, but I'd rather see Rachel replace David Gregory on MTP.

I've said that many times. But it doesn't seem as if Gregory is going anywhere, and Rachel is so smart, but so smooth that she could snap the absurdity in the press corps before they knew what hit them, and then maybe we'd get real information. She is not being seen and heard by enough people where she is.

Robert Gibbs is a masterful man. 'nuff said.

Once of the best in a long, long time. Since O gives less press conferences than even W did, Gibbs weathered every storm in an increasingly Gotcha nasty media world.

How about Rachel Maddow as Press Secretary.
06:43 AM on 01/06/2011
Quiet, if Maddow gets the job, have everyone sit to the left side of the room so they can hear her.

Oh, I wish. It'll never happen, but he sure wouldn't pull any punches if he had the job.

Nothing wrong with tears. Making fun of John Boehner seems small and unnecessary. And you wonder why many Tea Party conservatives reflexibly feel liberals look down on their humanity....

Let's find creative ways of communicating the guy's policies and ideology. When you push people they just tend to push back.

I don't have a problem with their humanity. It's their inhumanity that I find so despicable.

There are lots of examples down through history of people that were marginalized as "inhuman."

I would like to see Jesse Jackson take Gibbs place. That would put the final touches on this administration...

I know this will never happen, but I would like to see Alan Grayson take Gibbs place for just a couple weeks. Can you imagine what he would have to say about the GOP and how he would handle the Press in the White House briefings. I would love to see him dismantle every one of those WH correspondents and their contrived trivial questions.
02:46 AM on 01/06/2011
Good for you, Xargaw. I say, Alan Grayson for new Press Secretary now! Hooray! The republicans can't control Mr. Grayson because he has courage, is honest, cares about the middle class and the indigent, and will not back down as fighter for the people. Had the Obama administration done everything that Alan Grayson, Ed Schultz, Nancy Pelosi, and Michael Moore urged our administration to do, we would be a much more peaceful and safer nation today. Jobs would be created and the budget would recover. Nonetheless, we must continue to support our President. Good-bye Robert Gibbs; hello Mr. Grayson!

They'd have to install halon gas fire control systems in the press room if he was selected.
