HuffPost's Ryan Grim Talks With MSNBC's Cenk Uygur About A Possible Government Shutdown (VIDEO)

Posted: 04/ 5/11 09:12 PM ET

The Huffington Post's Ryan Grim spoke to MSNBC's Cenk Uygur about the possibility of a government shutdown and the GOP's proposed budget cuts.

Grim explained that John Boehner is "crafting his budget with the audience in mind of his Tea Party caucus. And as long as he's doing that, as long as he's trying to pass a bill through the House with only Republican votes, he's not going to get it through the Senate and this isn't a serious negotiation until he decides that he's going to have to pick up say 40, 50 Democratic votes and then start whipping Republicans hard," explained Grim.

On the topic of the GOP's proposed budget cuts, Grim said, "it's not a controversial thing to say that these cuts will cost thousands of jobs."

"What's going on here? Why is it so much different today than it was back then?"

A: Today we have Fox News... back in 1995, there was no mainstream non-Liberal network.

The weird thing is - I see the clips often, but I cant find the name. It does never say there - unless "the place for politics" is supposed to be a show name. It is also not listed on the MSNBC webpage for streaming the shows.

Cenk Uygur makes Rick Sanchez look like Edward R Murrow. Luckily you can go on his show, safe in the knowledge that no one is watching.

Cenk is intelligent, truthful, corrects himself when he is wrong, and draws logical conclusions from facts. I can evidence this in a number of ways. What evidence do you have to buttress your argument?

And he probably is nice to his mother, but I knew Walter Cronkite, and Madam, Cenk Uygur
is no Cronkite!.......or Al Roker for that matter.

btw, have you nothing better to do in the afternoon?

Cenk makes a load of mistakes, he needs to relax and take his time. He could end up being Rick Sanchez 2.0

There is nothing new under the sun. The Republican political and economic strategies once again parallel exactly those of Hoover in 1931 & 32. What's disconcerting if the fact that far too many Democrats, this time, are buying into such vacuousness. The answers to achieving economic recovery are so plainly obvious--as Nobel economic laureates inform us--that one must wonder if in fact the Republicans actually want to see continued failure. It seems likely.

Sirota nailed it. Either Obama doesn't understand "Negotiation 101" or he's actually in cahoots with the right wing of the Republican Party. Personally, I don't believe he's that stupid. I believe he's a scoundrel, pretending to be "for the people" while actually doing the bidding of the economic elites as much as Boehner is. The next time he stands up against the wishes of the international and central banks will be the first time in his Presidency.

That's Cenk Uygur. Except for the recent Libyan coverage, he's been beating CNN in that time slot. He also gets about the same ratings as Chris Mathews, and that's despite the lack of promotion given to him by MSNBC. He started on public access, onto the most viewed internet news show in the world The Young Turks, and now he has an opportunity on national TV. He's a real grassroots progressive voice that challenges the establishment, whether they be democrat or republican.

nelarcadio: You say Cenk Uygur started out on public access TV? That's neat - if it's true. What's your source on that? It's not mentioned on the Wikipedia page about him. ~ Rob

A government shut-down will only harm the vulnerable, disenfranchised, and voiceless - conservatism as usual.

It's going to happen because both parties think they can use it to their benefit. The real impact and harm of a government shut down is the last thing on congress's mind. They only care about one thing: themselves.
