Ryan Grim Talks Palin's 'Holier Than Thou' Tea Party Tone (VIDEO)

What's Your Reaction:

HuffPost's Senior Congressional Correspondent Ryan Grim appeared on MSNBC Monday to weigh in on Sarah Palin's recent "tea party" remarks.

Palin appeared at the group's first national convention in Nashville this past weekend and took aim at President Obama.

Grim explained that while Palin may not be consistent with her ideas, her tone remains the same.
"It's the same tone she affected since she was thrust into the spotlight in the summer of 2008. She's always had this kind of holier than thou attitude where she refers to herself and her supporters as 'real Americans.'"

Grim argued that the worst part about Palin's crib notes was that the former governor used them to talk about her core beliefs.

Sarah L. Palin; don't ya just luv her?
Mother of 5 kids (one of which has special needs), ex Mayor of Wasilla, Gov of the great state of Alaska, enjoyed approval ratings of 93% when in power (I believe the Speaker would be thrilled to have similar ratings). Ran unsuccessfully as VP. We should all be proud of her shattering that darned glass ceiling. God Bless You, Sarah!

S Palin makes me absolutely sick to my stomach..... It is truly horrifying that her phony folksy, phony populist banter based on an absolute twist of the issues gets so many excited. Others on the right use the same flimsy talking points, but no one as undeservingly smarmy. Someone so unmerited to even have a platform making snide comments as if they are unmistakable facts is truly the worst possible example of our politics at work. How can so many, be so ultimately clueless as to not see through this absolute nonsense. I am sick

Sarah sweet SARAH had the extreme right wing raise up and embrace her as she embraced them. She brought the most ugly part of America with self loathing hate, race problems and hate for other cultures and religions on center stage.

Yes Sarah i will always remember you for bringing the word HATE for HUMANITY to center stage.

There are several brillant Republican women who have none of the qualities and ignorance that sweet Sarah has but for some odd reason they were bypassed.

The Tea Party is a scared group of people. There is a great two-part podcast on the BBC called Health of a Nation. http://www.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/series/docarchive/all#playepisode11
According to the podcast, one reason why members of the Tea Party are scared is because of the changing demographics in the US. 78% of Americans over the age of 55 are white. 55% of American children age 5 years and younger aren't white. The next 20-30 years, the majority of American voters won't be white. Most of the people who protested at town hall meetings last summer were middle age and older. And they were white. Probably the same people who belong the Tea Party. They fear they are losing the America they have known. Having an African American president is an example of this fear. If the Tea Party really believes their taxes are going up (not true), concerned about the $1.3 trillion debt, and think that government is going to control our lives, why weren't they protesting and criticizing Bush when he created this debt by having two wars, allowed 9/11 to happen, bailed out the banks, had the housing crisis on his watch? They didn't start to protest until Obama came into office. If the Tea Party thinks a single payer healthcare system is another step to government control, will they be up in arms when they start receiving Medicare and Social Security?

Interesting -"white people losing the America they have known. Personally I think white people have bigger worries than a few Negroes and other non white people. We don't want to take over the place; we have always understood that the world belongs to the real property owner - GOD. I'm sure He will want to know how some"real Americans' who continue to benefit from the murder of millions of the indigeneous inhabitants and Negroes whose blood fertilizes land he intended for love and peace. Sarah Palin better hope He's in a forgiving mood.

Thank you for your comment and link.
Interesting how intelligent people can decipher what is really happening in America. It's unfortunate a large group of our citizens unable to do the same.

This fear is race based and started in the McCain/Palin rallies. When race remarks generated from those rallies were not well received. They decided to thrown any and everything on the wall to see what would stick i.e. large govt., taxes, stimulus. This group NEVER tried to help solve the current problems facing America. They have been against President Obama from the beginning (hoping he would fail). Primarily due to his race. Their philosophies are hurting American (maybe irreparably) and they are doing it in the name of patriotism and fair and balanced. Unfortunately, at this point, they are swaying others with their cover of big govt., taxes, stimulus.

I didn't vote for him- but had to pay the price
optimiskeptic   03:50 AM on 2/10/2010
I feel the same way--I didn't vote for Bush, but we'll all be paying the price for that for a long time. We and our children will be paying the Chinese and others for years to come because Bush wanted to spend money on a totally unnecessary war without raising taxes. Then, there are the 4,000 who paid the ultimate price of their lives, and the many other vets who will continue to pay a price all their lives due to their injury and trauma. It was a despicable thing for the Bush administration to do, and no Republican should be elected before their party apologizes to the American people, far as I'm concerned.

Agreed! Bush CUT taxes for the very wealthy. Directly contributing to this mess. And the wealthy are hiding behind raggedy jeans and plain t-shirts. I wonder why.

I can't believe I am saying this, but Sarah Palin is right. If she ran for President, she would be helping our country because her presidential campaign would finally kill off the dead and dying GOP once and for all. And that would be the best thing to happen to our country in a long, long time...

However, since she has never done anything to help our country, I doubt she will start now.

Running for president is hard work and we all know she is a lightweight.

And a quitter, too.

Instead, she will fleece the flock by reading stupid speeches off of her hand for 100,000 dollars a pop and ghost buy her ghost book using campaign contributions.

What does she care? It's all about Sarah anyway...

So she can sit on the sidelines and snipe while serious people, like the President, try to do the heavy lifting by themselves...

It's easier to burn down than build up...

You betcha!

I liked what Jon Stewart said her motto would be in contrast to t he "hopey, changey" thing that's not working out for us : "Abandon all hope all ye who enter here". Great motto for this dimwit.

"Hopey, changey". Yeah, hearing that from her was about as condescending as her referring to herself and her fans as "real Americans".

Stewart and COlbert are tied for the best T-shirt waiting to happen, but I'm going to have to lean with Cobert just becasue it still makes me laugh til I cry. :)

Please Sarah, take your red-neck teleprompter and go find somewhere else to spew forth that useless diatribe. I too am tired of her acting like her and her cronies are the "real americans" and the rest of us are just the regular Americans. http://newsy1.wordpress.com
tonifla   11:07 AM on 2/10/2010
Amen to that. Since when did disagreements in political ideology make some Americans "real" while the rest of us are what.... pretend?

Thank you. "Affected" is the operative word...I've never heard one sincere word out of this M0r0n yet.

Just the sound of her voice gives me the creeps. I love that they are calling her "Half Baked Alaska" and she thinks her hand is The Telepropter.
Winky, winky Sarah.
Randhp   05:58 PM on 2/09/2010
You have to understand she is addicted to the camera. The news organizations are paying way too much attention to this idiot. If she were a man or a Democratic woman, they would have written her off a long time ago.

Governor Indeed! She will not be former either. the guy in there now will be!! How about when referring to her, you call her Sarah Palin. She should be given NO honor! NO title!
photo
ScarlettMocha   01:53 PM on 2/10/2010
Agreed,
A person who completes the term has earned the honor. But a quitter, they should not continue to be addressed with the title. They relinquished the title when they quit.

It amazes me when she or Tancredo or anyone else on the right comments about the 3000 lost lives on 9/11 ( and it was tragic) and Obama being soft on terror. For some reason.. ahem.. they do not finish it with the fact that 4000 + lives were lost ostensibly avenging 9/11. But the lives were lost in a war we were lied into. A war that had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11. It actually PO's me to here it.

Did anyone else notice that she had crossed out one word on her palm? She can't even get her crib notes right.
Megan97401   01:08 PM on 2/09/2010
She had "budget cuts" written and she crossed out the word budget and replaced it with tax.
USBrit   03:40 PM on 2/09/2010
Budget cuts is not monosyllabic. Need to amend that when keeping the audience in mind...
