Huffington Post political reporter Sam Stein appeared on PBS's "Charlie Rose" Tuesday night to discuss the confirmation hearing of Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan. Stein was joined on the program by NPR's Nina Totenberg.
"She entered the hearings with the presumption of confirmation, and she did very little to erase that presumption," Stein said of Kagan's performance in her first full day of questioning from Senators Tuesday.
"This process is very cynical to begin with, you don't really want to reveal too much lest you find yourself in trouble. But at the same time she deflected really the main lines of criticisms that Republicans have thrown at her, whether it's on gun policy, whether it's on Harvard, whether it's on her being a progressive. She really handled each one of those in succession, and I think at the end of the day she came up for the better."
