Sam Stein On Gibbs Vs. 'Professional Left': "They're Really Just Talking Past Each Other" (VIDEO)

Posted: Updated:

Huffington Post political reporter Sam Stein went on MSNBC's Hardball this evening to discuss recent comments made by White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs. In an interview with The Hill, Gibbs lashed out at what he called "the professional left" for its criticism of the Obama administration. In a subsequent interview with Stein, Gibbs walked back his comments, calling them "inartful."

Stein broke down the situation:

Now, we all know that this White House thinks it's being mistreated by punditry, they think they've gotten all these legislative accomplishments and they should be rewarded for it with public opinion. That's not always the case, certainly not on the Internet, certainly not on cable TV. And they sit there and they watch the commentary. They say they're above it of course, but it affects them. And so they go into these interviews, sometimes perhaps not in the best mental state of mind, and they mouth off.

Stein went on to remark that while there are legitimate gripes on each side, Gibbs and the political punditry on the left are "really just talking past each other."
