THE POLL: Big Ten Battleground Poll, of 564 randomly selected registered voters in Ohio (20 electoral votes.)

THE NUMBERS: Obama 53, McCain 41.

OF INTEREST: What the poll showed to be a dead heat in September has opened up, with Obama taking the lead. Ohio helped decide the 2004 election in President Bush's favor.

DETAILS: Conducted Sunday through Wednesday by landline telephone. The poll has a margin of error of 4.2 percentage points.

THE POLL: Big Ten Battleground Poll, of 562 randomly selected registered voters in Michigan (17 electoral votes).

THE NUMBERS: Obama 58, McCain 36.

OF INTEREST: McCain pulled out of Michigan earlier in October and this poll shows why. Obama's 22-point lead is up 18 points from the previous poll done a month ago.
