DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — John Holmes scored 19 points and C.J. Reed added 18 as Bethune-Cookman defeated Howard University 73-56 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game on Monday night.

The Wildcats (8-8, 2-1) never trailed in the contest.

Howard (1-13, 0-3) lost its 13th straight game after a season-opening win over Oregon State.

Jerry Jones scored 12 points as the only other player in double figures for the Wildcats, who have won four of their last six games.

Eugene Myatt and C.J. Prince scored 12 points each for Howard, and Randy Hampton added 11.

A 10-0 run midway through the first half provided some cushion for the Wildcats, who ran out to an 15-point halftime lead at 38-23.

Holmes' 11 second-half points helped the Wildcats to their largest lead at 71-51 with 1:12 remaining.
