Md.-Eastern Shore beats South Carolina State 66-63
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. — Neal Pitt scored 17 points and Maryland-Eastern Shore beat South Carolina State 66-63 for its first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference win of the season on Monday night.
The Hawks (3-9, 2-1) went to a zone defense early in the second half against a Bulldogs team who shot 12 of 32 from the field after the break and 21-for-54 in the game.
Maryland-Eastern Shore won back-to-back games for the first time since defeating Hampton and Howard on Feb. 2 and 4 of the 2007-2008 season.
Sammy Obetoh and Jamie Boyer scored 10 points each for the Hawks.
Jason Johnson led the Bulldogs (6-7, 1-1) with 24 points on 7-of-14 shooting and pulled down 11 rebounds, while Jimmy Williams chipped in 16 points.
The two teams combined for 40 turnovers, and the Hawks outrebounded the Bulldogs 41-37.
