WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama has pushed the girls on their new swing set and made them fly. But he has yet to try the swing he had installed for his daughters on the White House grounds just outside his Oval Office.
Returning to his office Saturday after escorting Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva to his waiting limousine, Obama was asked whether he'd tried the swing set yet. It was installed last week as a surprise for daughters Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7.
"I have not tested the swing, but I've pushed them on the swings," Obama said. "This is pretty spectacular," he said, gesturing to the all-wood play set, which has four swings, including a tire swing, a slide, a fort, a climbing wall and climbing ropes.
Obama said he'd set up a day where White House staffers can bring their children to work, including some play time on the swings. He also extended an invitation to children of the White House press corps.
