2 die in plane crash near Calif.'s Mammoth Lakes
MAMMOTH LAKES, Calif. — Two people have died in a small plane crash in the Sierra Nevada near California's Mammoth Lakes.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Mike Fergus says the single-engine Cessna with a pilot and passenger aboard crashed Wednesday afternoon about seven miles west of the Mammoth Yosemite Airport.
Fergus says the plane fueled up at the airport but its origin and destination were unclear because no flight plan was filed.
He says the pilot didn't report any problems and the cause is under investigation.
The identities of the victim have not been released, but the plane was registered to Regeneration Reservation, an Arizona-based Christian ministry that serves American Indians.
A call and e-mail to the organization were not immediately returned.
