MANAMA, Bahrain — A Bahrain rights group says the daughter of a jailed activist has had her own detention extended for seven days.
Zainab al-Khawaja was detained Thursday and charged Saturday with destroying government property including a photo of Bahrain's King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
She is the daughter of human rights activist Abdulhadi al-Khawaja, who earned international attention when he went on a 110-day hunger strike earlier this year. He and seven other activists were sentenced to life in prison last year. They are now among a 20-member group whose cases are being re-examined.
The younger al-Khawaja has had several run-ins with authorities. She served a month in jail after confronting police during a protest and was injured in June after a tear gas canister hit her in the left leg.
