LEAVING LEGACIES: Life histories, ethical wills -- sometimes called "family love letters" -- video recordings and other forms of personal legacies are increasing in popularity among retirees who want to share them with loved ones.

ATYPICAL PLANNING: The sharing of values, wisdom and accomplishments is being encouraged by some financial planners as a complement to traditional estate planning.

AGING POPULATION: Behind the rise in interest are the aging U.S. population and growing lifespans that are resulting in longer retirements. More small businesses also are emerging to cater to the demand, especially with baby boomers beginning to retire.
