AVONDALE, Ariz. — The last race at Phoenix International Raceway included a sprint, when Clint Bowyer ran through the pits and garage to confront Jeff Gordon.
Ryan Newman did the running in Sunday's race – away from his car.
Newman went into the wall early in the race when his car blew a right-front tire. He made it back out, only to have a tire go down on the same side and send him into the wall for the second time in 140 laps.
Instead of waiting for the safety team to arrive, Newman climbed out of his No. 39 Chevrolet and trotted across the track, hopped over the half wall in the pits and back to his hauler with a disgusted look on his face.
