LAS VEGAS — Dale Earnhardt Jr. is done with cheeseburgers, but he still enjoys the occasional steak.
Junior is still watching his diet after dropping about 20 pounds in the offseason with a 15-day cleanse, a program with a mixture of prune juice, carrot juice, vegetables and fruit.
Although he likes the results, don't expect Earnhardt to show up on a late-night infomercial for juicers any time soon.
"I wouldn't recommend what I did to anybody," he said with a laugh. "I really did it on a dare, plus it was all right that if I lost 10 pounds, then that was going to be a bonus. A buddy of mine just dared me to do it."
Although Earnhardt eventually went back to meat proteins, mostly with grilled fish and chicken, the 38-year-old is watching his weight during the season.
"I like a good steak, but I haven't (had) a cheeseburger in I can't remember how long," he said. "Once I got about 34 or 35, I kind of had to start watching the cheeseburgers and chicken wings and the pizzas, because I swear I would probably eat two or three pizzas a week around that time. Those were the good days."
