CAIRO — A Libyan diplomat says his country's embassy in Cairo has reopened. It was closed last week after noisy protests there over the death of an Egyptian Christian in a Libyan prison.

The diplomat said work resumed Monday. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to reporters.

A number of Egyptians recently deported from Libya told The Associated Press they were tortured and accused of proselytizing. They said the man who died there was also abused. Egypt's government said he died of natural causes.

The embassy reopening comes a day after the Libyan ambassador to Egypt met with the head of Egypt's Coptic Orthodox Church, Pope Tawadros II.
