SAN FRANCISCO — SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A San Francisco man has been charged in two federal courts with operating a secret website that sold more than $1 billion in illegal drugs and services.
FBI agents arrested 29-year-old Ross Ulbricht on Tuesday at a small library in San Francisco. He has been charged in New York federal court with conspiracy to traffic in narcotics, hacking and money laundering. He is charged in federal court in Baltimore with soliciting the murder of a witness from an undercover agent.
Ulbricht didn't enter a plea to any of the charges when he appeared in court Wednesday in San Francisco. He is due back in San Francisco federal court on Friday to discuss bail and his transfer to New York, where most of the charges have been filed.
