NEW YORK — NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Police Department says a woman believed to be the mother of a dead child known only as Baby Hope has been found.

Chief police spokesman John McCarthy says DNA was used to match the woman with the child, whose body was found in 1991.

Police got an anonymous tip that led them to the mother. The DNA match was made last week.

McCarthy says the case is being investigated as a homicide, but there are no official suspects. Authorities have interviewed the mother and are speaking to other people.

The remains of the 3- to 5-year-old were found inside a picnic cooler discarded near the Henry Hudson Parkway.
