BRAZZAVILLE, Republic of Congo — BRAZZAVILLE, Republic of Congo (AP) — Authorities in Republic of Congo say more than 50 members of the military have been released by soldiers from neighboring Angola.

Jacques Moanda, president of the departmental council in Niari, confirmed it late Friday following diplomatic talks between officials from the two neighboring countries.

The liberation of the hostages was also announced on state television in Republic of Congo, which broadcast images of the soldiers.

Military officials have said the Angolan forces were pursuing separatist rebels who have used Congolese soil to regroup when they took the Congolese soldiers hostage.

The troubled Angolan province of Cabinda has been the site of fighting between the military and separatist forces since 1975.

In 2010, a bus transporting Togo's national soccer team came under fire there, killing two and wounding eight.
