BBO--WORLD SERIES-RAMPING UP REPLAY
BOSTON — By next season, Major League Baseball is expected to greatly expand instant replay to review most every call except for balls and strikes. This makes the World Series the last time umpires will basically be on their own, as crew chief John Hirschbeck reminded his fellow umps on the ride to Fenway Park for Game 1. Then in the first inning, they all got together to reverse a call in the opener between the Cardinals and Red Sox. By Ben Walker. UPCOMING: 600 words, photos by 5 p.m.
