BEAVER CREEK, Colo. (AP) — Lara Gut of Switzerland won a second straight World Cup race, edging a strong Austrian contingent in the super-G on Saturday.
Gut turned in another blazing run on the new Beaver Creek course, finishing in 1 minute, 18.42 seconds. Elisabeth Goergl of Austria originally took second but was disqualified for improper ski equipment, bumping up teammates Anna Fenninger and Nicole Hosp to second and third.
Gut has this course figured out, winning the downhill Friday. She goes for a Beaver Creek sweep Sunday in giant slalom.
It was another rough day for the Americans, with Leanne Smith turning in the best finish at 23rd. The squad was without Lindsey Vonn, who skipped the event to rest her right knee after a recent training crash.
