WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — Officials say 431 Delawareans enrolled in the state's new health insurance exchange in the first two months of open enrollment under the federal Affordable Care Act.
The number of enrollees disclosed Wednesday represents only about 1.2 percent of the 35,000 Delawareans that officials hope to enroll in the exchange.
Last month, Delaware officials reported 136 enrollments.
The new figures released Wednesday show 4,185 applications for Delaware's exchange, for coverage of 7,650 individuals. About 1,820 individuals were determined eligible for Medicaid, and another 1,670 were eligible to enroll in the exchange with financial assistance.
State officials have refused to say how many Delawareans enrolled in the exchange with the help of marketplace guides, hired with millions of dollars in taxpayer funds to educate people about the exchange and help them enroll.
